I stayed for five weeks with George in December 2025 and January 2026, and it was amazing! I got to help him with his wonderful project, and it felt great to see the construction work progressing while I was there. George is very welcoming and generous, always eager to share good moments, delicious food, and knowledge. Burya is a beautiful village, not far from Veliko Tarnovo, Sevlievo, and Gabrovo, cities that I got to visit with George. My stay was really what I had hoped for and truly reflects what Workaway is about: meaningful work and cultural exchange. Communication was easy in English; George also knows French and Spanish. He taught me a bit of Bulgarian, which I was able to practice with him and his friend Pencho. George is a fantastic Workaway host!

I can’t recommend this workaway more highly - while I planned to stay for three weeks, I found myself there for two and a half months. Jenny and Mauricio have built a beautiful space, and I learned a lot about sustainable living, appreciating nature, and making a difference. The work was varied, well-explained and enjoyable; planting trees, collecting and peeling coffee, working in the greenhouse, painting, and digging drainage channels, among other bits and pieces. The farm is located in a beautiful area, with plenty of places to visit nearby in your free time. Quito is but a short trip away, and Mauri is glad to share his tourism tips. During my stay I was treated to an array of Ecuadorian dishes and fresh coffee, ate way too many desserts, and had the luxury of my own room. It was truly a pleasure and privilege to be a small part of the community Jenny and Mauricio have crafted, along with Marinela and Sebi, and their family and friends. I was warmly welcomed and treated with incredible kindness. I’m beyond grateful for the experience, and again, can’t recommend it more highly!

Said and Linde were so kind and welcoming to us! I am so grateful to them for taking a chance on my sister and I as first-time workawayers! Linde was excellent at being there to communicate about how things are done and always making sure we were ok and comfortable. Also they fed us well and the food was amazing! 😊 We enjoyed doing the jobs they assigned us and also met some wonderful fellow workawayers who joined during our stay. The trip to the desert was a highlight! As well as our last meal together cooked by Said. I definitely left a piece of my heart there and the best part was making life-long friends with Said and Linde and our fellow guests! ❤️

Ryan stayed with us for two weeks and was a pleasure to host. He adapted very well to the rhythm of the farm and worked smoothly with our team. Despite having limited experience with an Indian farm setup, he approached every task with enthusiasm, openness, and a cooperative attitude. What stood out most was Ryan’s philosophy of life and his genuine desire to contribute meaningfully to society. Through his experiences, travels, and learning, he carries a thoughtful intention to eventually settle on a farm and give back—whether through education, community engagement, or mentoring younger generations. Our evening conversations around the bonfire were deeply engaging and reflective, and it was truly an honour to host someone with such clarity, humility, and purpose. We would happily recommend Ryan to any host looking for a sincere, hardworking, and mindful volunteer.

Esther and her sister Serena stayed with us for a week and it was really a wonderful time with them. From the start we immediately got such a good feeling about both of them. They’re very happy to help out in any way, are both extremely kind and flexible people carrying such a positive and beautiful energy. They’re very social and at the same time happy to spend time by themselves as well, which was for us the perfect combination :) they helped us a lot with the daily care for the animals, in cleaning/preparing the fields for water that is arriving soon and with work in the house and in the kitchen. They’re very pro active always asking where they could help us more :) We wished they could’ve stayed longer and hope to see each other again some day :) Couldn’t recommend them more to anyone considering to host them! A big hug!

This was the first Workaway experience for both the hosts and myself, which shaped the stay in a very authentic way. Overall, the atmosphere was good, especially when activities were shared and time was spent together. During quieter moments, however, I sometimes felt a sense of loneliness. Working hours depended on the training schedule but never exceeded around five hours per day. The work with the dogs was physically demanding, so being sporty and comfortable with hands-on labor is important. Communication and planning were sometimes unclear, mainly due to the hosts’ demanding jobs as business owners, rather than a lack of goodwill. I would recommend this Workaway to independent, physically fit people, ideally with a car. Mornings often left enough time for personal hobbies alongside the work with the dogs. Despite the small challenges, this Workaway offered valuable insights, meaningful work with the dogs, and a genuine learning experience for both sides. I would come back at least to see the grown puppies🤗

Sam and Jess stayed with us in our home for 3 weeks. They were open, kind, fun, hard-working, respectful, patient, independent and the list goes on. We truly enjoyed sharing our space with them and the wonderful conversation. They constantly went above and beyond, not only with the tasks they were given for the day, but playing with our daughter, picking up her toys at the end of the day, working far more hours then required, making yummy snacks to share, etc, etc. Sam helped with a construction project and easily learned new skills and how to use different tools. With little experience he was able to quickly take on his own tasks and solve problems as they arose. Jess is an extremely compassionate person and a joy to be around. Every tasks she took on she saw to completion. She is energetic and was amazing with our child. I am grateful for all she did every time I step into the garden! We highly recomend Sam and Jess to anyone who is looking for workwayers that are responsible, positive and hard-working. We made great friends and hope to meet again someday. Thank you!!!

Originally I was drawn to the idea of living off-grid in a wild environment but my 2 months with CK and Sofi were so much more than just that. Being involved in a project which is making such a positive difference to our ecologically damaged world felt such a privilege. The project was focused around the data collection (many hours sitting in a bird hide) monitoring the reproductive habits of an endangered species of bird. As well as that, setting camera traps around the site to monitor other species in the forest. it created an amazing space to learn more about the wildlife we share the world with. As well as that, there were many other task needed to be undertaken to help keep on top of the project. Mapping of the site, construction on the buildings and walkways, clearing paths etc. CK and Sofi created a wonderful community full off curiosity, wonder and kindness. We would spend hours speaking, watching the many hummingbirds and listening to the sounds of the forest.

Paul came here to help with painting the house and gardening for three weeks. He learned quickly and took everything in his stride. We got a lot done together. He was also a great help on hunting trips, fishing trips, and camping trips. He was helpful at sea with setting nets and traps. We cooked a lot of good food together. He was also sociable and friendly with both my children and grandchildren. We had many experiences together. We decided to extend his stay to a total of eight weeks. He is always welcome back here.

My stay with Knut was my first Workaway experience and nothing less than spectacular. Knut really lives an extraordinary life and in my time with him, I was fortunate to be a part of it and have a myriad of new and exciting experiences. Knut and I instantly got along very well, and pretty much immediately after arriving I also had the chance to meet his amazing family who I really felt like a part of during my time there. Knut is super active and pretty much always doing something, has a big family, circle of friends and is extraordinarily well connected in the community. With Knut, you never really know what a day will look like and plans can change quickly. He is super active and loves being outdoors. We were out on his boat almost everyday, fishing or checking the crab traps. We also did multiple amazing trips hiking and fishing in the mountains and sleeping over in cabins. We also went shooting and once the season had started I could join him for deer hunting. These activities also generate a lot of fresh meat and fish which Knut knows how to prepare in all sorts of ways, so there is always amazing food. Work at his house involved painting, gardening or clearing out his outhouses. Generally though, there wasn’t a strict separation between work and off-time which was one of the cool things. Every day was like another adventure with new experiences. A lot of time is also spent helping out people he knows and who are in need of his many skills. And, from fixing almost anything to spontaneously building a stone wall, it always seems like he’s done it a million times. Those are also great chances to learn from him and improve your own skills. What exactly you join him for is always completely up to you and he will make sure you are comfortable and your needs are accommodated. But, in order to get the most out of your stay with Knut you should be an active, outdoors loving, hands-on and spontaneous person who can go with the flow and be okay with not knowing what any given day is going to look like. You should also like meat and fish and trying new food. Knut is also very smart and has gone through and done a lot in his life. More than his story being inspiring in its own right, it is great to talk to him, get his advice and reflect upon your own life. Sometimes it’s also just fun to listen to one of the many stories he can tell from his life. If you share his direct sense of humor you will also have a lot to laugh! For anyone who these words resonate with and who wants a Norwegian adventure, I can wholeheartedly recommend a stay with Knut. I'm lucky to now call Knut a friend and look forward to visiting him again someday.

Lena and Finja joined us a little spontaneously, and from the very beginning it felt like they had always been part of the plan. They settled in easily, brought great energy into the house, and contributed to a genuinely positive group dynamic. Both of them are strong workers who don’t shy away from physical tasks. They helped with heavy jobs like moving countless rocks, collecting driftwood, clearing weeds, and processing trees, always with focus and determination. What stood out was how attentive they were: listening carefully to instructions, checking in when unsure, and then getting on with the job efficiently and responsibly. They were also thoughtful and kind around our family life, especially with our daughter, whom they connected with naturally and warmly. Their presence added to the lively, happy atmosphere in the house, and the four girls together formed a team that worked smoothly and harmoniously. We really appreciated that Lena and Finja made good use of their time off as well, taking moments to rest but also heading out to explore the local hiking trails and surroundings. It showed a genuine curiosity and respect for the place they were staying. Lena and Finja were a pleasure to host: reliable, hardworking, considerate, and easy to have around. We’re very happy we said yes to having them join us and would gladly welcome them back anytime. We can wholeheartedly recommend them to future hosts. Note from our 6-year-old: “Please come and visit me again when you go to the South Island!” 💛

Nelly and Emma arrived right in the middle of our moving chaos and did so with open eyes, open minds, and zero hesitation. They knew exactly what they were walking into and jumped in wholeheartedly from day one. Few days before arriving, they asked a favour: whether two friends they had met on a Kiwi farm and were now travelling with could join them. We didn’t hesitate, and we’re very glad we didn’t. Having all four girls in the house brought so much life, laughter, and ease. They genuinely get along beautifully. No bickering, no drama, just a supportive, fun, and hardworking little team. They worked incredibly hard and tackled everything we threw at them with energy and a great attitude: collecting driftwood, chopping down and processing trees, battling weeds, and carrying so many heavy rocks from the neighbour’s place. They followed instructions carefully, asked for clarification whenever needed, and took real pride in doing things properly. They also connected wonderfully with our daughter, who will forever treasure the “lost-then-found-again” friendship bracelet from them. That bond alone says a lot about their kindness and presence. We were also happy to see them take our advice seriously: using their days off not just to rest, but to explore and enjoy the local hiking trails and surroundings. A lovely balance of effort and appreciation for the place they were staying. We’re already hoping to see them drop by again on their way to the South Island in a few weeks’ time. All in all, Nelly and Emma (and their two friends!) were an absolute joy to host: reliable, hardworking, considerate, and genuinely lovely humans. We would welcome them back anytime and can wholeheartedly recommend them to any future hosts. 🌿💛

Olwen was a real asset despite recovering from an injury and being on crutches! She never once used it as an excuse to do less, if anything, it seemed to fuel her determination to do her best, tackling every task with a smile and a can-do-attitude. She was a huge help around the place, from taking on deliveries for our freight company to working through a darning pile. Olwen's creativity shone through in the kitchen, where she thoughtfully planned and prepared meals, even going the extra mile to make a German cake she'd never tried before. Using Google translate to work through the recipe ended up in a delicious cake we all enjoyed! Being bright and capable, she helped a friends daughter prepare for her NCEA physics exam. Olwen is a wonderful conversationalist. She is easy to talk to and has a mature perspective on things, far beyond her 18 years. Her time with us (around 5 weeks) flew by, we truly enjoyed having her here and recommend her to any host who's looking for someone responsible, hardworking and a pleasure to be around.

I stayed at Esther’s home in Wakiso for about two weeks. Since December was the Christmas holiday, the schools were closed, so I wasn’t able to do volunteer work at the school. However, Esther and her family warmly welcomed me, and I spent many happy days with them. Esther is a very active and inspiring person. While working as a teacher, she also cooperates with public organizations both in Uganda and abroad to address malaria using Artemisia. As I am Japanese, I was able to share how Artemisia has traditionally been used in Japan. Her family is also very kind. Every day, we played football, card games, and went for walks in the nearby hills. I had a really wonderful time with them. Esther invited me to her hometown and took me to a village near Jinja. Life in the village was very enjoyable, and being able to see rural life in Uganda firsthand was a truly valuable experience for me. If you are considering volunteering in Uganda, I highly recommend staying at this place. You don’t need any special skills or teaching experience. Esther will support you and help you find the best way to contribute, always thinking about both you and the children. Thank you.

I had a great time with Adam in her house in the garden. I stayed with her for a week. I watered the plants and cooked with her. I got the chance to meet a lot of nice people from her village, visit the school in Siffoe, watch football matches, visit a festival in a neighboring village. Staying with her brought me closer to Gambia and its inhabitants who are warm and very friendly people. Thanks for everything Adama!

I stayed at their home for three weeks, and I had a very positive experience there. Unfortunately, Raf was working in another place during my stay, so I didn’t get the chance to meet him in person, but he supported me very well through WhatsApp. Thank you, Raf. During my stay, I spent most of my time with Frank and Evelyne. They are very kind, and the time I spent with them is a wonderful memory for me. Every evening, we went for walks along a beautiful path near their home and did some shopping at a small local shop run by a neighbor. We cooked dinner together and enjoyed our meals as a family. The volunteer work included general farm tasks such as watering and weeding the garden every morning, feeding the chickens, preparing food for Trent (their friendly dog), as well as cleaning and washing dishes. I had a private room, which was very clean and comfortable, and I was able to live there peacefully. On the weekends, Frank took me to visit Lake Victoria and also showed me his studio. I also had the opportunity to attend a university festival with Evelyne. It was a lot of fun. If you are looking for a volunteer experience in Kenya, I highly recommend staying at this place.
