Alina and Dia were generous, kind, and interesting hosts during our time on their beautiful property in the mountains in São Vicente da Beira, Portugal. We enjoyed picking olives, collecting and roasting chestnuts, making food, and playing with the sweet animals. Unfortunately, I (Kim) wasn't feeling well and have a cat allergy, so we had to leave early. Alina was so kind and understanding. We really wanted to stay and support the work there. We had hoped to help build a fence and participate in what sounded like an epic Halloween party and community dance party. Even though our time together was short, we appreciate the opportunity and experience. Wishing you all the best!

I really had a good time at Vili's place. It was a really great experience, even tho i had personal stuff happening back in my hometown, everyone was so nice that it always made me forget the bad stuff. It is an absolutely beautiful place, with a lot of positive energy, and it tells. I cannot wait to go back one day, and have a drink at the bar, maybe play a little with other musician, and the great pianist that Vili is. I really wish i could have stay more. I cannot recommand this place enough, thanks Vili for the opportunity

(July/August 2025) There are inaccuracies in the profile, it really needs to be updated. Jose and Nicolas don't live there anymore, or at least didn't when I was there. The garden was also deprioritised that year so not much to learn about food self-sufficiency. I tried working with the trees as much as possible, but sometimes I had to work on insulating the car, which I didn't enjoy, didn't feel good at and didn't think I could learn anything from (I also didn't learn anything from the trees because it was just weeding). I brought up the profile being inaccurate to Gille but he didn't care, he's not someone who prioritises accuracy. I noticed this in other ways too, for example when we went to the circus (which was a great day) I wondered if we should bring food and he said we would be back for dinner, but then after the circus he decided we would go somewhere else, which was also fun (I still remember that song we sang), but no food I could eat, which could have been prevented. You are very dependent on cars there since there is no public transport. There were positives too, the day trip to the circus festival, another trip to a nearby town that was having an art exhibition festival thing, the surroundings are beautiful, very secluded, one day the donkeys came up all the way to the hamlet from the small nearby village, and I properly used a scythe for the first time. I had no problems with the accomodations nor with any of the people on a personal level (the problems with Gille came from him being the host).

It was absolutely wonderful having Jana with us, and such an honor that she ended up staying for two months instead of just three weeks. She was incredibly empathetic and connected beautifully with our horses. She was easy-going and respectful; we felt truly appreciated, and I loved practicing yoga with her. The most beautiful thing was seeing how much she blossomed around the horses—the sparkle in her eyes remained even when it was raining and she was out there mucking out in full gear. Thank you so much for the wonderful time, Jana. You are welcome back anytime!

It was super nice to have liv with us helping. She was really empathic and it was nice talking with her. She got into her duties very fast and she was really responsible the work that had to be done. She cooked very nice food for everyone. It all felt super hamonic and we hope to see her back again one day. Thank you!

My stay with Katherine and Sebastian was truly wonderful. From the beginning, I felt like part of the family rather than just a guest. They are incredibly kind and supportive, and the kids are super sweet and fun to be around. I felt welcome and comfortable the entire time. The location is great as well, with easy access to the Kapiti Coast for beautiful sunsets, nice hikes, a nearby brewery, and a charming small town. I had so many laughs, felt at home right away, and am very grateful for this experience. I can wholeheartedly recommend them as hosts – always happy to come back!

I spend the most beautiful winter here for 6 months in this forest with a scenic view on the Galtees mountains. Living with only the birds, the rain, the wind, the sun, the stars and the moon is what everybody need to feel the power of nature. I´ll never forget Fionntáin and all the volunteers I met here.

Working at Estrella's is a real blessing. In het beautiful garden there is always something to do. In exchange for work you get Spanish lessons, home meal cooking, a stunning view and a warm feeling that you are home. If you have the chance to stay here, grab it with both hands. Dear Estrella, Thank you so much for having me in your beautiful home and to meet your family! The surroundings are stunning and makes working at your place very easy. It was a privilege! I hope I can come back some day! Till we meet again! Hug Rob

Riccardo and Michele were wonderful volunteers and it was truly a pleasure hosting them. They are both super friendly, respectful, and easy to have around, bringing a very positive energy to the house. They were always willing to help, worked responsibly, and showed great initiative in the tasks they took on. Beyond the work itself, they were simply great people to spend time with and chat about all sorts of things. Hosting them felt very natural and comfortable. We would happily welcome them back anytime and can wholeheartedly recommend them to any future host. Thank you both for the huge help and the lovely time together! You will be missed.

I stayed with Pippa for about three weeks, with a one-week break spent with her wonderful friends, Noelle and David. Time flew by at her place. The house is spacious and tidy, with a great living room and an excellent library. I always felt at ease; in the beginning, I even felt a bit overwhelmed by her kindness—she is always so ready to offer you something to eat and happy to let you cook whatever you like. The work mainly consisted of weeding, pruning, and mowing in the fabulous garden, all done without any pressure. She lent me wellies, an old sweatshirt, and a waxed jacket, so I wasn't afraid of the rain or getting dirty. Thanks to her and her friends, I visited practically all of County Mayo: Ballina, Ballintubber, Cong, Moore Hall, Turlough... Noelle and David took me to Killala and Ballycastle, where I saw the impressive Downpatrick Head, while I went to Westport with Margaret. In general, she is always willing to give you a lift somewhere, as well as play Scrabble or let you watch TV. If you are looking for a genuine cultural exchange in County Mayo, I highly recommend Pippa.

What a wonderful experience! I stayed with Christine for two weeks, and do wish I could have stayed longer. Christine is warm, engaging, and genuinely curious—both about people and the world. She is well-traveled and well-read, and brings an energy and focus to her life that is inspiring and contagious! Communication was clear and collaborative, and I felt at ease very quickly—the environment naturally felt like home. The work followed a typical WorkAway rhythm of around five hours a day on weekdays, with some flexibility. Weekends were free. Tasks included garden work, cleanup, and hands-on projects, and were light to moderate depending on the day and your level of fitness. There was always clear direction, with openness to ideas and contribution. I had a private, upstairs bedroom with access to both a private and shared, guest bathroom. The house is full of character—books, art, and thoughtful details—creating a cozy, creative space that’s easy to settle into. Meals were shared and primarily vegetarian — and always DELICIOUS — with a relaxed daily rhythm and a nice balance of connection and nurture. Christine did most of the cooking. I contributed by always cleaning up. This would be a great fit for someone who enjoys a more personal, one-on-one exchange and a home-centered environment. It’s especially well-suited for someone who values both independence and collaboration, and who enjoys contributing to something meaningful. Highly recommended!

Lina was a great addition to our team during the busiest time of the year! She was very enthusiastic about everything that was going on, eager to socialise with everyone, and ready to help out wherever needed. Because she was with us during the height of the summer season we really did ask her to help out in so many different areas around our place, and she did such a great job of being flexible, efficient, and being willing to help wherever help was needed - even when the tasks and nature of the tasks varied a lot from day to day, or wasn't even something that she had necessarily done before, she was always ready to listen, engage, and help. Thank you so much Lina for the time you spent here and all the best for you in the future :)

Sveta stayed with me for 4 nights as part of a language exchange, she helped me practice my Russian, and I provided accommodation. It was a genuinely wonderful experience. She was generous with her time and patient with my Russian exercises, which I really appreciated. Beyond the language practice, we went out together to a concert and she even cooked for me, both lovely moments that made the whole stay feel more like hosting a friend than an exchange. On the practical side, she's tidy, clean, and very respectful of the home. She's also flexible, fun, and has a great sense of humour. Easy to be around in every way. I'd warmly recommend Sveta to any host. Would love to have her back!

I spent 14 days on the farm with Younas and it was a really interesting experience. Younas is a very talkative guy – if you're interested in farming, vermicomposting, or anything related to how the farm works, you can talk with him about it for hours. He’s happy to share his knowledge and also explain things about Morocco and the local culture, you just need to ask. During the day you don’t always see him much, especially at breakfast, but lunch and dinner are a different story – that’s when he usually sits down with everyone, talks a lot, and answers any questions you might have. Overall, the communication is open and friendly. One thing I really appreciated was that he arranged a visit to a local hammam for us. He came with us and explained everything, so we got an authentic experience that you wouldn’t normally get as a tourist. As for the food, there is plenty of it and it’s really good – sometimes even too much to finish. The accommodation is simple but sufficient. You’ll find all the basics – a shower, toilet, kitchen where you can cook, and even a washing machine. There is also a place to relax and a big table where everyone eats together. Overall, it was a great experience. Now I’m continuing my travels around Morocco, but if I get the chance, I would gladly come back to the farm for another two weeks. I would recommend this place especially to people who want to learn something about farming and at the same time experience authentic Moroccan life.

Can't explain in words enough how beautiful and beyond any expectations this place is. Bruno is a very kind and generous person with a little time to spend and a huge heart to give. I enjoyed the time working in the kitchen, the bartendering at the wedding, picking fruits and weeding the garden. this place feels heavenly with the nature around, the pool, the amount of food given every week, the waterfall, the little lake with ducks in front of the volenteers house. im very greatful to have this experience. thanks very much Bruno and family :-)

Frida Luise & Noam have been very helpful in supporting daily activities. They assisted with cooking and helped prepare meals with care and responsibility. They also supported teaching and spent time patiently working with the children. In addition, they helped sweep leaves and kept the surroundings clean and tidy. They showed great dedication, positive energy, and a sincere willingness to help in all tasks. We are truly grateful and sincerely thank both of them for their valuable support.

We had a great time with Marieke, Jan, Jogchum and the animals! The communication was open and familiar. We had a free work organisation, had a fixed job, but could also do something different and no day was like the other. It was never boring (especially not with the animals) and yet it is also a place of tranquillity and there is room to retreat. We had a lot of fun and beautiful evenings! Thank you for the two great months🔆

Yiqian came to assist in teaching and caring for the children with great dedication and kindness. She is gentle, patient, and treats every student with equal care and attention. During her time with us, she helped create a warm and friendly learning atmosphere. The children felt happy, more confident, and enjoyed learning much more. She consistently supported the learning process and took good care of the children. Her sincerity and commitment made a positive impression on both teachers and students. We are truly grateful and sincerely appreciate her valuable support. Thank you so much :)
