Description
Hello everybody!
We are Mikel and Irena, and we run a friendly hostel in Shkodra, Albania. We’re looking for positive, easygoing volunteers to help us with the daily life of the hostel and share a great experience together.
Our hostel is located in a quiet neighborhood close to the city center. Shkodra is a place visitors quickly fall in love with. The city sits beside Lake Shkodra, the largest lake in the Balkans, and is home to the historic Rozafa Castle. You’ll find two rivers surrounding the city, the Adriatic coast about 30 km away, and the breathtaking Albanian Alps only 70 km from here — perfect for nature lovers and hikers.
What volunteers help with
Daily tasks are simple and varied, such as:
* Welcoming guests at reception and creating a friendly atmosphere
* Light cleaning and helping keep shared spaces tidy
* Small day-to-day tasks around the hostel
* Being part of the team and hostel vibe
We don’t expect perfection — just a good attitude, responsibility, and a smile.

Volunteers are part of our daily life and spend most of the day around the hostel. You’ll share our routines — helping with simple tasks, cooking, and exchanging perspectives about life. As a hostel, the environment is very social, with constant cultural exchange among travelers from around the world.

I'm really happy that I spent 3 weeks with Mikel and his family. This was my first volunteer experience and I really like it. During that days we (me and 2 other volunteers) swept, washed the floor, cleaned the bathrooms, changed bed linen and so on. It took no more than 2 hours. The hostel was awesome! This was my first workaway experience and this place was perfect to start working. The work wasn't heavy mostly cleaning, making rooms ready for customers, garden work, painting and building things (that was so funny)!!

It was a great first workaway experience. The hostel is really nice. The tasks are cleaning, getting ready the dorms, welcoming guests, painting, gardenning... Besides, Shkoder is a beautiful city. So many wonderful spots to see. The lake and the river are perfect places to go swimming. Great experience.

I am glad to visit Mikel’s hostel! I had a great time in that place. It was a very good experience. The work wasn't too hard, but everyday something new happened, arrived new intresting people. The atmosphere was so cool! And the main - there is a cute friendly dog :)

Stayed in the hostel for 3 weeks in august. Work was mostly cleaning and socializing with the guests, very chilled out and the other volunteers were awesome. Beautiful surrounding areas and loads of time to explore it. Last but not least home grown fruit and veggies in the garden were so good. Tia and Mikel were great hosts :-)
