    Description

My name is Caner, I have lived in Geyikbayırı for 5 years and first came here for climbing and ski mountaineering and fell in love with the area and the opportunities for adventure. In December 2019 I opened a small campsite here surrounded by the some of the best rock climbing points in the world. I am working full time to make the camp a success and hope to attract not only rock climbers but also all kind of adventurers. Currently I am looking for a volunteer to help with general tasks around camp.

I am the owner and solo worker at the camp but do not receive a salary.

We have already built a common kitchen, common toilets and bathroom, a few small guesthouses and a campsite. Our place is very close to the climbing routes and is surrounded by forests and mountains. Our first focus is to keep our place as clean as possible.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Geyikbayırı is famous for highlining and our camp and the surrounding area attracts lots climbers and artistic people including many jugglers and musicians. I can share Turkish food, language and culture. We have guests visiting from all over Turkey and overseas and so you'll have the chance to make friends with our guests and learn more about their cultures and as we have a common kitchen guests often share food and drink and languages. I´m happy to improve my English and would love to talk to you.

    Help

We are a small camp, so we need help with everything. Help with general cleaning and gardening. Sometimes you need to fix something, nail a shelf, make a table, sometimes you just need to make our living room cozier. We always need beautiful photos for social networks. If you are a professional in website design or a master of social networks - welcome, we will also need this. Be prepared that you may be involved in any work to improve our camp :)

We ask for 2-3 hours a day, 5 days a week. We can be flexible with when you help during the day, but usually require the kitchen and bathroom areas to be cleaned at night or in the mornings before guests wake up. Or if you want to help extra during the week you can take an extra day off.

The ideal volunteer will be friendly and helpful, can communicate well with our guests, is a nature lover, respectful of others and able to do manual labour such as cleaning and gardening.

    Accommodation

We provide each volunteer with a tent, a foam mattress, and bedding. Volunteers have access to the shared guest kitchen, which is equipped with a gas cooker, refrigerator, kitchenware, and a personal food storage box.

If the workload increases and additional working hours are required, we are happy to offer extra benefits, such as improved accommodation or food support.

Volunteers are also welcome to use all of the facilities available to our guests, including:

    - 24-hour hot showers and toilets.
    - Free use of the washing machine (guests pay for laundry, but volunteers do not).
    - Wi-Fi.
    - A common area with plenty of electrical outlets for charging devices and a wood-burning stove.
    - Campfire area
    - Projector
    - A small multilingual library
    - Board games

Food and basic supplies can be purchased at the small local shop in Geyikbayırı village, about a 30-minute walk from the campsite. We also have a cozy coffee shop where you can enjoy great coffee and homemade desserts. These are available for purchase.
There are two buses to Antalya, each running five times a day, and it is also easy to hitchhike to the nearby town, where more frequent public transport is available. Every Sunday, there is a local market in Akdamlar (6 km from the campsite). There are also several Turkish restaurants in the surrounding area.

The campsite is surrounded by forest, offering a peaceful natural environment. During the winter months (November to February), nights can be quite cold, while daytime temperatures are often pleasantly warm. Volunteers should be prepared for outdoor living and comfortable with simple, nature-based facilities.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Geyikbayırı is a perfect place to be based if you love the outdoors and especially rock climbing with over 1000 bolted sport climbing routes. You can also travel further south to Olympus for more climbing. In addition I am an experienced rock climber and skier and when there is time would be happy to take you rock climbing or if not one we can arrange for a climbing course or perhaps one of our guests may take you if you make friends. We have a skiing area in nearby mountains, we are located at the start of the famous Lycian Way long distance trekking route, there are mountain biking routes and an ancient old Lycian city located in the beautiful forests surrounding our campsite. In the summer you can go swimming in the nearby river or head to Antalya to visit the old town or swim in the Mediterranean sea.

If you're a rock-clımber or highliner this is a fantastic place to be based, otherwise you can go slacklining, practice yoga or just explore the stunnıng nature in the local area.

We are located 38km from the Antalya airport and 25km from the centre of Antalya.

There is a bus that passes 3 times a day to Antalya city otherwise it is possible to hitchike to the nearby town and catch a more regular bus. On Sundays there is a local market around the corner from us, the nearby small town of Geyikbayırı has a small shop and mosque. There are also some cute Turkish restaurants in the local area.

To ride any public transport, you should buy an Antalyakart (rechargeable transport card) from a newsagent or on the bus. It costs approximately 10L, including 5L credit. I defınıtely recommend downloadıng Antalya Kart (in english) to help plan your journey.

Bus 600 can get you into Antalya and buses 521, 521A and TK51 will get you to Geyikbayırı or neighbouring villages from which it is possible to hitchhike. From Geyikbayırı it is around a 30 minutes walk to our camp. Please check the Antalya Kart app for the latest bus times. Expect a journey from the airport to our campsite to take around 3 hours.

As Geyibayırı is located away from Antalya the Internet speed is not the fastest. We have reliable TurkCell 4G wifi in our common area. The internet is shared with guests and so speeds can vary throughout the day. You can work indoor in our common area or outdoors on our terrace, however both areas are shared with guests so a quiet workspace is not guaranteed.
