    Description

We’re a family of four living on a small homestead just 10 km from Rønne, surrounded by nature, deer, hares, birds, and big skies on the beautiful island of Bornholm. During the summer, we’d love to welcome 2–3 workawayers at a time to share daily life with us and help out around out homestead.

A minimum stay of one week is required — longer stays are very welcome up to 4 weeks if it’s a good match.

We are easy going, appreciate meeting new people and would love to invite you to enjoy our special place and the island as a whole.

Please understand, that we cannot host anyone with pets as we have cats, ducks and chickens on the property.

We haven't previously hosted any workawayers, but we are eager to try out this platform and way of social and cultural sharing. We are currently planning the workawayer setup, so building the outdoor kitchen, toilet and showering facilities is currently in the planning phase and starts construction in start april. Once done we will post pictures.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Learning from new people and learning about their way of life is something we treasure a lot - and we'd love to also share our thoughts and reasons for living on the island, if you're interested in this way of living. We moved from the big city and a life there to living on a farm in the country-side. It was a very intentional move; It has been a joy and we'd love to share that experience with you, if you're considering this way of life. We find that talks and cultural exchanges like these usually happen naturally while doing something practical - like walking in nature or working the land. We'd love to show you some of our favorite hikes on the island, if you're interested. Great talks usually happen during these hikes.

We'd love to show you how we work our land here at our homestead and would love your feedback and ideas if you have any experience with farm work. We work our land primarily using regenerative as well as permaculture no-dig principles with as little effort needed to work the soil. We grow vegetables for ourselves as well as sell any surplus at our roadside stall.

We have an ever-growing number of people who keep coming back to buy whatever is in season from us, so we're sort of in between a market-garden and a semi self-sufficient homestead.

If you're into natural building materials we'd love to show you how we build with things like hemp, lime, clay and wood while restoring our old house.

  • Help

    Help

The help is typical farm tasks: varied and hands-on. You should expect some gardening, stacking firewood, general homestead tasks like pruning trees, picking berries and feeding animals. If you feel comfortable, there's always some small repair tasks here and there on the farm that will need attention. Let us know if you have experience in any of these areas or something you might think would be applicable. Nothing too crazy — just honest help with visible results.

If you're interested in natural building materials we'd love to teach you our approach to working with natural building materials like hemp, clay, lime and wood.

Expect about 3 hours of help per day leaving you plenty of time to explore the island, hit the beach, or simply relax.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You’ll stay in a cozy caravan/camping wagon with a small kitchen, so unless you’re here with a friend or partner you will have to be ok sleeping in the wagon with someone else. There are two separate single beds in one end of the caravan with a sliding door for privacy – as well as a sitting area that can be turned into a double bed. You’re also more than welcome to camp out in your own tent or in a large tent we have set up. Longer stays get the caravan. There will be (currently under construction) an outdoor kitchen with a barbecue grill and a propane stove (no oven), a simple outdoor shower, and a composting toilet — rustic, but charming, and very much part of the experience. We also have a couple of bikes you can borrow for free, perfect for getting around and discovering Bornholm at your own pace.

You’ll provide your own meals. Once a week (usually on weekends) we will host a free shared dinner, where we eat together, talk, laugh and slow things down a bit. We will announce and plan these shared dinners together pending our family plans as we are busy some weeks and may have friends and family staying over. Drinks at your own expense and taste :-)

We’re looking for open-minded, kind people who enjoy nature, don’t mind simple living, can work independently and someone who appreciate being part of a community.

If you’re dreaming of a summer with soil on your hands, wind in your hair, and evenings under the open sky, we’d love to hear from you.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We’re a family of four: Medde (50), Tony (51), Anton (19) & Viola (15) and we currently have 4 cats, indian running ducks and heck of a lot of chickens 😊 Tony primarily works from home as a software developer and filmmaker, Medde is a physiotherapist and yoga instructor and works Mondays and Tuesdays in Copenhagen and the rest of the week mainly from home. Our son Anton is studying to become a blacksmith and lives in Rønne – and Viola is in 8th grade. We live in a traditional timber-framed house that we are renovating using as biofriendly materials as possible - like woodfiber insulation, lime and clay. Our property is about 4.5 acres and we grow a variety of fruits and vegetables using mainly permaculture principles and no-dig gardening.
We live an active life with lots of activities and projects on the land and in the house – and we appreciate hikes and daily dips in the ocean around the island.
