    Description

Hi!! We are Chiara, Mario and baby G.
We are a family of 3 humans, 4 maremma sheepdogs and 3 cats.
Chiara is a psychologist born and raised in Milan, who loves travelling and exploring the world. She lived in different cities in Italy, and in Germany and finally put her roots in the countryside where she met... Mario! Mario is a surveyor with a profound love for trees, woods and countryside life. We lived for a while in a remote countryside house (formerly a farm) and recently moved to a new house a bit less remote, in a village of more or less 20 houses, just before our baby G was born.
Baby G is a funny boy who loves laughing, exploring and eating. He will turn 1 this August.

We have a big garden that needs some work to set up a new veg garden and trees.
We have need some help mostly with works outside, including preparing the wood for the winter.

We are in a small village, surrounded by nice paths in the woods and nice views.

Chiara and baby G are vegan, so the food we offer here is mostly plant-powered :-) we love hosting vegan people and share recipes.
We prefer not to have meat in the house besides the one for the pets.
Since we have a baby we strongly prefer to host non-smokers.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

The landscape we have is wonderful and you get the chance to see the cycles of nature.
The dogs and cats are lovely so you get tons of love from them.
I used to be a couchsurfing guest and host, and I travelled abroad a lot, so I would be happy to resume cultural exchange and tell you about Italy and hear about your country.
I am very interested into wild edible plants and I can share what I learned til now. I love cooking, happy to teach about vegan cooking.
My partner has a good knowledge of the countryside and of the woods, he is also a great cook (you need to speak a bit of Italian to learn from him) and is enthusiastic about mushrooms.
For part of the week we have grandparents helping us with the baby, so you'll get to meet them too.

  • Help

    Help

    HELP OUTSIDE
Help with outside works: picking up/cutting wood, planting trees/plants, cutting the grass in some areas, preparing the soil for the veg garden, DIY works for outside
In the summertime we look for people who have a good knowledge of the veg garden (e.g., how to tie tomatoes, has an eye for parasites of plants or plant diseases etc.).
We will love to teach you what we know and share time with you, but we don't have time at the moment to train from 0 someone who stays a short period of time, so we might need to select people who are already skilled or proactive

    DIY and General maintainance
Help with setting up the house (painting, fixing, moving furniture, building stuff etc)

We usually manage to take care of the dogs on our own but we might ask that you feed them at times or that you let them in/out if you are at home.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You will have a room inside the house with a queen size bed (it's the baby's room but he still sleeps in our room so he happily gives it to workawayers).
We don't request that you do houseworks but expect to share basic house cleanup (e.g. help loading the dishwasher or washing the dishes, cleaning up after yourself when you use the bathroom, keeping the room clean etc).
**PLEASE BE AWARE** our baby is young and wakes up at nights sometimes, your room is next to ours so you might hear him crying a bit or hear us moving to attend to him.
Also, sometimes the dogs do one or two barks during the night (literally one or two, they don't bark continuously).

We are in the countryside and people wake up early, so sometimes they cut the grass at 8am in the morning 8-|

  • What else ...

    What else ...

The town is 20 mins walk from home. When you arrive we'll pick you up at the bus stop in town, or at the train station in Piacenza if there are no buses or if we can manage to come to Piacenza (35mins drive).
There is a café/restaurant nearby, anything else is in town. We have a bicycle (that I still need to repair cause I haven't used it in a while) that you can use to go to the city, it's not good to go on trails cause it's not a mountain bike (coming soon).

We are near the woods, the hills and the river Nure.
In your free time you have the possibility to take walks on the hills or visit some nearby villages (many castles and medieval towns in the area). If you have a car or motorbike or bike you can go further to the mountains, and in 2 hours you will be at the seaside.

We are usually more free in the weekend and if we can we like to go in the woods or to the river for a walk, or going around to pick up stuff depending on the period (e.g., chestnuts, fruits). Let us know in advance if you want to come around with us so that we can plan accordingly.
In your time off you can take great walks in the hills or in the forest and go down to the river (better in summer).
We live a somewhat quiet life, and like to spend some time here and with the animals. We might have friends over visiting or coming over.
We expect that you respect people and common spaces, clean up after yourself, help with maintaining the house clean and tidy.
Everything can be agreed flexibly, feel free to ask, we are happy to listen! If you are not at ease with something please let us know, don't assume we read minds cause we don't :-)
