    Description

***Opportunity good for Musicians, couples who would like personal space or solo travellers who would like some personal time in the forest.

We are a family of 5 with a dog Captain! We live 5 min out of the town of Kaslo in the Kootenay mountains. BC, Canada.

I would say we are a creative group. We love to get outdoors: camping, mountain biking, boating, sailing and we even have a new windsurfer we are trying out this year.

WE have three boys (8, 10 and 12) There is a blend of homeschooling and public schooling within the house. The boys are all involved in local sports and activities and love mountain biking/skateparking.

My partner Dean has his own landscaping business seasonally. There is potential of extra paid work for the right person. Dean's business brings in a lot of compost piles and discarded plants. This creates a creative element to the land with never knowing what is coming next and figuring out how to use it. He also brings in a lot of reusable building supplies that can spark creativity for projects.

My name is Allison. I work three days a week at a childcare centre (Waldorf inspired). I am also a musician with a few different projects I play around with in the community. (blues band, accordion children's set and Kirtan leading). I am always interested in playing with new musicians. As a workaday visitor there is option to stay in our beautiful music studio as your personal space. So the experience may appeal to a travelling musician!!

Last our dog Captain is a very friendly big puppy of one years old. He loves everything and everyone. He is still learning not to get too excited and jump up but is doing well with this.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

There is lots of fresh mountain air here! The outdoor activities are plenty. Canoing, Camping across the lake, mountain hiking, mountain biking, Sailing, windsurfing, Swimming. We often eat suppers on the beach when it is warm enough and can introduce you to our community that way. We also make trips across the lake for camping of exploring.

There will be time to gain relationships with our family and friends in the community to know our town better and relate to our culture.

There is also local music events, workshops, mushroom festivals, visits to other towns in area.

We are interested in learning about other cultures and teaching our children about different foods, music and culture.

I have lived in Mexico as a teenager for three months. I have lived speaking French in Northern Quebec. And I have lived for three months in Haiti. I have experienced living and learning another language and culture and see the value in that adventure! My own experience shows three months is the magic time that it takes to really feel comfortable in a new language and culture!

    What else ...

Our house is a 20-30 min walk to town through a forest path. There would be bikes to borrow for transportation. Also car rides are 5min to town.

There are many events in Kaslo, restaurants and local workshops. There is a yoga centre 5 min walk at a neighbours studio. There is also a local Facebook page to stay connected to community events. Very friendly community!

We have a energetic dog that loves to go for walks in our back woods and our land backs onto some lovely trails with views of the lake.

Our boys are very much interested in anything on wheels. They love to create jumps in the woods and ride down to the beautiful skatepark every day. Our 12 year old homeschooler loves to make create building/electrical projects and our land has a lot of materials and bike parts to play with.

May there is a local community festival. In the Fall there is a Mushroom festival. (and lots of picking if the season is good.
