    Description

Come and share your cultural expertise with us. We are a warm and friendly family and have lot of experience with students and workaways staying with us all year round. You will speak English with us - I (mother) am the only person in the family who speaks Spanish. I am happy to invite you on any family trips we may have. We like camping and we own a caravan. I am a researcher, I do some lecturing and work in social services. My 15 yr old son likes playing computer games and does boxing and my 6 yr old boy goes to school and camps during the summer. We live by the beach. There is a park across the road that has a free gym. We are walking distance from the beach and the city centre and there is an excellent bus service at our front door.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Galway has a lot of offer, it is a coastal city and near the Irish native speaking communities. There is loads of beaches and many colleges. During the summer there are lots of mini festivals in the city centre. I speak some Spanish, however, I am English and my kids were born in Ireland. If you want to improve your English this is a perfect arrangement. I am very knowledgeable in the local area and Irish culture and happy to help and support any travel ventures. Galway is an excellent place to base yourself as it has brilliant public transport for the entire country - this is not something that all parts of Ireland enjoy.

    Help

We would prefer a woman if possible, and it is helpful if you can drive so you need to be over 25 yrs for insurance purposes.

I live with my two children - they are both boys - one is 15 years old and the other is 6 years old. We live in a nice family friendly estate in the west coast of Ireland. We have a nice garden and we are very social people.

I welcome general support with the house - cooking, cleaning, childcare. On Fridays some help with painting, decorating projects would be great (no cooking/cleaning/childminding on Friday). I have a few painting projects that I cannot finish as I do not have time as a single working mother.

You need to like children and enjoy playing with them, he is an active little boy. My 15 yrs son does not need any support.

Most days your hours are from approx. 2pm -7pm. You generally do not do workaway hours at the weekends so you are free to travel and explore Ireland.

We can be flexible if you have travel plans - as long as the arrangement is good and you are happy and enjoying the experience. I am happy to do whatever works best.

It would be great to video chat and discuss all before you arrive so everyone feels happy about the arrangement. We would like you to feel welcome and respected for the time that you are staying with us.

This host offers a language exchange
Yes, I would be delighted to engage in a language exchange of Spanish and English. But I really need someone who has a reasonable standard of english as its a busy household and in the past workaway have struggled communicating with the children, which is difficult for everyone.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You have your own private living space, separate from the rest of the house. Your space has a bathroom with a toilet, sink and electric shower. It has a sofa bed, a kettle, a toaster, a microwave/cooker and a fridge. There is separate entrance to your unit which is through the garden and I have a scooter you can use when doing jobs for the house.

I will buy all the food required for cooking family meals and you are welcome to eat our food. I will provide some food for your bedsit - breakfasts, bread, snacks, tea, coffee, biscuits, fruit and yogurts.

I am also happy to provide shampoo, shower gel and towels etc...when you first arrive

    What else ...

Galway city is on the coast, surrounded by beautiful beaches. We live in the heart of Galway, 3min drive / 15min walk / 7 min on bike/scooter - from from the city centre. There are shops and buses just outside. There is a park across the road that has a running track and free public outdoor gym equipment, tennis courts, baseball courts and a skateboarding track. I have excellent references from our past students and workaway and students come back again and again. I will do my upmost to make sure you feel welcome and happy and support you to go on your own travels and experiences. I am also happy to bring you on any family holidays or trips we are going on. I enjoy hosting vibrant people we can learn from as a family.
