Description
Our place is in the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges. It is close by many attractions. We have a separate self-contained attractive one bedroom (queen bed) cottage for use and live on 30 acres of mixed bushland and paddocks, with lots of wallabies, wombats and other bushland fauna. It is peaceful and there are walks through the property as well as nearby. Train travel to Melbourne is a few Kilometers away. There is a nearby village with cafe's, food stores, chemist etc.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We live only 45 kilometers from the city of Melbourne on the rural fringes. Travellers have the opportunity to visit Melbourne and its cultural center with museums and a thriving arts precinct, as well as seeing something of the surrounding bushland. There are many nearby national parks. We are retired academics with strong interests in preserving the land we live on and its flora and fauna. Natural horsemanship is also a passion and something of work with animals could be learned. There is also a nearby aboriginal cultural center.
Help
The help we need is for weeding and maintenance in a large garden, some work on the farm (not too heavy) and some occasional care for horses and a pig - mainly feeding. The pig is a pet. We love all animals.

Accommodation
A one bedroom cottage (Queen bed plus a single mattress for the floor if needed) with bathroom and kitchenette. There is a microwave oven and refrigerator, plus a gas b-b-que on the front porch. Negotiated use of oven in the main house. Workaways will be expected to buy their own food although some shared meals may be provided if everyone is happy with this (happy to have people accompany us on shopping trips). We are vegetarian and would prefer no cooking of meat in the house but love to share our vegetarian and vegan recipes (delicious!). Heating/ cooling with reverse cycle heater. Use of washing machine in the main house - negotiated times.
What else ...
There are many nearby attractions to visit and learn from. Look up information on google on the Dandenongs. There is a small gauge railway (Puffing Billy) that runs through the hills. We like a quiet life in our semi-rural setting and would not want noisy parties although quiet music is fine. This stay is for people who want to experience life around Melbourne on a small holding with animals and bushland while still having access to a large Australian city.
