Description
Dear Workawayer,
We don’t host volunteers very often anymore. So if we can’t host you, it’s because we’re either not home, we have other guests staying with us, or we’re simply too busy or too tired to host anyone. Please don’t take this as a personal rejection.
We’ve hosted many people over the years: au pairs, couchsurfers, Bewelcomers, HelpXers, Workawayers etc. It has always been a wonderful experience for us to bring the world into our home. We learn so many new things, and the children have become very open-minded. They are now adults (born in 2002 and 2003) and have their own careers. Our son lives abroad, and our daughter still lives at home. Nevertheless, we are a happy family, and you might get to know one, a few, or all of us.
Most of the time, you’ll only meet the “old folks” at home ;-)
We would be delighted if we could offer you this experience in a similar way, just as we cherish it so much. We look forward to welcoming you here for a few days or weeks, working together and spending free time together, sharing ideas and experiences, and discussing the world.
Are you the person who
* would like to stay for 1–2 weeks (a longer stay is only possible if we don’t have other plans yet)
* is okay with cleaning and helping out in the kitchen (we’re sorry— we know that doesn’t sound very appealing, but it makes up about 80% of your work; there aren’t many other tasks here)
* may have extensive experience with tasks such as sewing, repairs, and gardening, as well as with computer support or preparing sophisticated vegan cuisine
* would like to spend some time in a green area of Vienna (subway nearby, 25 minutes to the city center, still accessible with a Zone 1 ticket)
* is interested in life in Vienna
* can imagine living with us and sharing our life
Please read through the following lines. We would be happy to receive a Workaway request from you. We look forward to hearing why you're interested in volunteering and what you expect from us as your host. -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
You’ll discover that Vienna is more than just a historic city without a royal family. It has always been a melting pot of many cultures from East and West, both in the past and today. Did you know that one of the four UN headquarters is located in Vienna? Don’t miss out on a guided tour there! Experience the international atmosphere, which is so much more than just tourism. It is precisely in this spirit that we look forward to a personal exchange between you and us, so that this idea of shared experience can become a reality, even on a small scale.
We are very happy to assist you with ideas for exploring Vienna, no matter what interests you. You’ll be surprised by all there is to discover, why we have no trash in Vienna even though we don’t export it (we even import it from other countries). You’ll discover that Vienna has nearly 100 km of publicly accessible beaches, even though we don’t have a sea. You’ll find out how and why everyone can afford to live in an apartment in Vienna and doesn’t have to commute. You’ll discover why Vienna—along with Melbourne—is consistently ranked as the city with the highest quality of life in the world. -

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
(Make sure you can really relate to these points.)
1) You're a very lively, active, open, positive, and cheerful person. You're a chatterbox! If not, you might not feel at home with us.
2) You’re very independent and experienced with travel; you love exploring the area on your own and making new friends, since we’re very busy and can’t spend as much time with you as we’d like.
3) You don’t need meat: The meals are vegan. Be aware that vegan food is very different from what you might be used to. Either you have experience with vegan meals, or you should be open to a completely different style of cooking. Austrian cuisine differs greatly from German, Italian, French, or English cuisine, as it is heavily influenced by (South) Eastern European countries such as Hungary, the Czech Republic, Serbia... In the summer, you may find yourself eating the same vegetables from the garden for a few days; in the winter, you should have no problem with traditional winter vegetables like cabbage…
4) You are a non-smoker (even outdoors) and do not use illegal drugs.
5) Our schedule is quite irregular (including meal times). You have at least two, sometimes three, or even four days off per week (if you prefer to work more hours on the other days).
6) You want to help out and take the initiative to see what needs to be done (without being told), such as unloading the dishwasher, cleaning the dining table or kitchen counters, and you don’t just wait for the to-do list; you work quickly and efficiently.
7) You’d like to stay for about 1 or 2 weeks (if you’d like to stay longer, please let us know).
8) You keep your room and all areas of the house clean and tidy.
9) We have a garden, so you need to be comfortable with nature, e.g., with spiders or grasshoppers in the house or snails and ants in the garden.
If you’re okay with that: Then you’re exactly the person we’re looking for :) -

Accommodation
- A quiet guest room with a large double bed, a sofa, and a desk (it’s located in the basement, so it’s a bit darker than the other rooms, but it has a window that opens); private shower and toilet; however, you’re welcome to use all the other common areas (kitchen, dining room, living room)
- Unlimited Wi-Fi in your room
- In a house with a garden (our pool is currently experiencing technical issues, but there are numerous natural bodies of water for swimming just a few minutes away)
- Located in the heart of a very quiet residential complex -

HEALTH INSURANCE
I’m sorry, but we can only admit you if you have valid health insurance that covers Austria.
FOR NON-EU CITIZENS
– if you plan to stay in Europe for an extended period:
If you do not have a European passport: Please note that it is very difficult to stay in the European Union for longer than 3 months. As soon as you arrive, you must register with the authorities in Vienna. If your residency status is unclear (no valid visa), you unfortunately cannot stay with us.
Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions you may have. It’s important to be aware of all aspects in advance—for both of us.
We look forward to your inquiry and to meeting you soon. -
