Description
In 2016 we built and moved into our straw bale home! Our electricity comes from solar panels, water from the rain and all our organic "waste" is composted, but there's still plenty of work to be done until we reach a sufficiently sustainable state.
I'm a single dad who works from home, so I could always use a hand with general maintenance. But there are also some bigger projects in 2026: fixing our access road and paths, preparation and timber framing for a new house, and more!

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Our property is a unique opportunity to see what it takes to form a Permaculture homestead on a bare field from scratch. We use a diverse range of techniques: solar panels and batteries, rainwater harvesting, natural building, polyculture planting and more.

Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.

Help
At this moment we are mostly accepting people who already have workaway experience outside of the city. It's a different kind of life we're living here in woods with a strong Do It Yourself approach :)
Note that we eat dairy products and eggs daily and it's difficult for us to provide meals that don't include these foods. If this is a problem for you, it might be best to seek another host that is more in line with your dietary needs :)

Accommodation
We have space for 2 people who are willing to help us and gain some new skills in the process. Best to bring your own tents, but we can provide additional camping equipment if needed. We have a compost toilet and an outdoor shower (this is the highlight!). Cooking is done in an outdoor kitchen and we provide all the food and ingredients.

What else ...
There's very little in terms of infrastructure close to our home, the closest neighbour is a couple of kilometres away. We are surrounded by hundreds of hectares of wild oak forests, so it's a good opportunity for some wilderness exploring.

Well I have to say thank you to Aleks and Marija to have allowed me to discover a new way of life. It was really one of my goals during my trip to live in the nature and to work with my hands.

From the first moment on, we felt really welcome.
In the morning, just before it got too hot, we could help them weeding, painting, watering the garden, earthplastering their beautiful house, wood chipping and building a catshouse. For us it was interesting to see… read more
