Hello!... our family is myself, Annabelle, and my 11 year old son, Dylan. We also have a loveable mutt named Angel.
We live in a leafy, inner north suburb of Melbourne in a renovated 1950s house. This is a family home, so it will suit you if you're looking for somewhere quiet and peaceful when you're at home.
If you want cafes and nightlife, etc, the 'hipster area' of High Street is only about 2 ks away. In fact, we're not far, in any direction, from good cafe's, pubs and public transport. Train to the city is 15 mins walk, or bus one block away.
The nearest beach is 40 minutes away, and there is a river about 25 minutes away that makes beautiful swimming in summer. You would be welcome to come with us.
I teach into the creative arts at a local university and I'm a writer/filmmaker. I work most days from my office, but my hours are flexible. Dylan goes to the local primary school. This is a creative, relaxed, friendly environment.

Help around the house
I traveled alone a lot when I was younger so I get the excitement, and sometimes vulnerability, of being so far from home and we want you to feel comfortable and safe here. I have also traveled widely in Australia, so can talk with you about where to travel next, etc.
We're excited to meet you!
We looking for someone to help around the house generally. If you're 'handy' that would be fabulous. I have lots of 'odd jobs'. For example, I've been wanting to organize a sheltered outside area for our bikes. Perhaps some dog walking. Some gardening. Some cleaning. I'm an enthusiastic cook, but if you like to cook, then there's room for that too. For us, it's most important that you fit in with our family so we can all be happy. Obviously, you need to be comfortable around kids.
Also, I'm very keen to cook and eat healthy food. Right now I'm into getting fitter, so if you're into that at the moment as well, then that could work out.
This opportunity suits someone who is a little more mature. Say 25+ ... but age isn't a deal breaker. It's more about attitude, common sense and life experience.
Although the listing is for a single traveler, would also welcome a small single parent family. One parent, one child - like ours. There's not enough room for more unfortunately.
You would be asked to help for 20-25 hours per week. I don't really care how that is shaped. For example you might want to work long days so that you have more days 'off'... but you need to be 100% reliable and a self starter. I'm happy to discuss this with you.
You will have a big, airy private bedroom in the house. It has its own entrance, and a little sitting area just outside. The bathroom and kitchen is shared. We have two toilets and one shower. The house isn't huge, so we all need to be respectful of each other. We have unlimited internet.
There is a green park right next door if you need some more 'space' to yourself.
Melbourne is a great launching pad for the Great Ocean Road, the Grampians, Wilson's Prom, the surf coast and much more. Melbourne city has been frequently voted the world's most 'livable' city.
This is the first time I've advertised for a Workaway guest which is why there will be no ratings or feedback about us.
