    Description

We are a young and friendly family with two children (7 and 4 years old), living in a cozy house near the beautiful Lake Obertrumer See in Austria. There's always something to do around the house throughout the year, so we’d be happy to welcome helping hands!
My wife and I founded an alternative free school in a nearby village. If you're interested in cultural or language exchange, there may be opportunities to offer workshops or activities at the school — especially if you enjoy working with children.
We look forward to hearing from open-minded, kind people who enjoy nature, meaningful conversations, and sharing everyday life.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We’ve both travelled a lot and love to share stories, experiences, or travel tips – just ask us anything you’d like to know! We’re also happy to give you advice on beautiful places to hike, walk, or explore in and around Salzburg.
As we’re both teachers, we’re always up for a good conversation about alternative education or pedagogical approaches.
After four years of hosting Workawayers, we’ve collected quite a few fun and memorable stories – we’d be happy to share some of them with you! 😄

    Help

We are a young family with two children, living in a spacious house right next to a beautiful lake. There's always something to do around the house – from cleaning, grocery shopping, and preparing meals to mowing the lawn, gardening, or spending time with the kids.
We really appreciate flexible helpers who are happy to lend a hand wherever it's needed and enjoy being part of everyday family life.
Together, we also run an alternative free school nearby. If you're interested, you're welcome to join us there – for example, by leading creative workshops, language games, or playful activities with the students.
Please note: Participation at the school is only possible for stays of at least 4 weeks.

    Accommodation

You’ll have your own private room with a comfortable bed in our house. We share a large bathroom, but don’t worry – it has a lockable door for your privacy. 😊
We both love cooking (and eating!), so mealtimes are important to us. Sometimes we cook together, and other times you might prepare something for the whole family – whatever works best.
We try to have dinner together every day and would be happy if you join us at the table.
During the week, we're often not at home around lunchtime, so you'll be welcome to cook something for yourself or buy something in the village – there are shops nearby.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Working time will be between 4 and 5 hours a day, depending on the tasks. Sometimes it might be even less, but in that case, we may kindly ask you to lend a hand over the weekend. Most of our Workawayers have helped in the mornings until lunchtime, but if you prefer afternoons, that’s also fine – we’re very flexible with working hours.

We are open-minded and appreciate different views on life. However, since we have two young children, we don’t accept smokers – neither in nor outside the house.

After five years of Workaway experience, we've also decided to only host Workawayers aged 21 and above.
So please only send a request if you are 21+ and a non-smoker.

As a family, we value real connection and mindful interaction – especially around our kids. So we kindly ask that you avoid being on your phone when you're with the children, and we also prefer mealtimes to be screen-free. Thank you for understanding!

Everyone else is warmly welcome in our home – and we look forward to sharing everyday life with you!
