🌳 Welcome to my farm – A Place for Regeneration, Community & Simplicity
Hi! I'm Pernilla, 31 years old, originally from the small village of Östervåla in Sweden. After living in different parts of Sweden and abroad for the past decade, learning and unlearning, I’ve now returned to my roots – to take care of my family's old farm just outside the village of Harbo.
This is not a business – no produce is sold. This is a personal, small-scale homestead in its early stages, where I’m exploring a simpler, slower, and more community-oriented way of living, in harmony with nature.
🌱 What you'll find here:
* A focus on regenerative gardening, permaculture, self-sufficiency, and local sharing economies
* A life close to nature: composting toilets, simple living, slow food, meaningful shared tasks
* A space to reflect, exchange, and grow – not just plants, but as people
🔧 Typical help might include:
* No-dig gardening and soil building
* Compost systems and seed saving
* Preserving food from the garden
* Light outdoor maintenance (painting, cleaning, clearing paths)
* Forest garden planning and creative reuse projects
Please note: I do not expect or require any specialized building or renovation skills – and I avoid tasks that would normally require professional tradespeople. The help needed is light, shared, and focused on learning together.
💬 Cultural exchange and connection: This place is as much about how we live together as what we do. I welcome conversations about alternative lifestyles, resilience, food systems, spirituality, or just life around the fire. We cook and eat together, share responsibilities, and take time for walks, rest, and reflection.
Hosting through Workaway is a way for me to meet people from different backgrounds, learn about other ways of seeing and doing, and share ideas about creating more sustainable and joyful lives. I hope to learn just as much from you as you may learn from being here.
💚 Who this is for: You don’t need to be an expert – just curious, open-hearted, and ready to engage fully. Whether you're already living alternatively or just starting to explore, you're welcome here.
This is a great place for people who enjoy:
* Working with their hands and hearts
* Being outdoors in all weather
* Sharing space, tasks, food and ideas
* Living simply and meaningfully
🏡 Practical notes:
* Located near Harbo, 2 hours from Stockholm
* Simple accommodation in a cozy house
* Mostly vegetarian meals, shared cooking and cleaning
* I speak Swedish and English
Let’s grow something beautiful together – not just on the land, but in life. 🌾

* Ogrävda (no-dig) odlingsbäddar och jordförbättring
* Kompostsystem och fröodling
* Konservering av skörd från trädgården
* Lättare utomhussysslor (målning, städning, röjning av gångar)
* Planering av skogsträdgård och kreativa återbruksprojekt
🏡 Praktisk information:

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Volunteering here isn’t just about hands-on tasks—it’s also a chance to connect, learn, and grow together. I love creating a welcoming, community-oriented atmosphere and would be happy to introduce you to my family and the local network of growers and nature lovers.
I’m passionate about small-scale organic vegetable growing and would love to share the knowledge and experiences I’ve gathered so far. Whether it’s learning how to start a garden from scratch, understanding soil health, or exploring regenerative practices, there’s always something to dive into.
Every other month, I host a local gardening circle here at the farm. Around 20 people from the area come together to talk about growing food, exchange knowledge, and work on the land as a group. As a volunteer, you’ll be invited to take part in these gatherings—an amazing opportunity to meet locals, be part of community-building, and gain practical insights into sustainable living.
Hosting people from different cultures also means a lot to me. I believe we all have something unique to offer, and I’m excited to learn from your perspectives, traditions, and ideas. I see this as a two-way exchange where we inspire and support each other on the journey toward a more grounded and meaningful life.Help
Type of Help Needed
I’m currently in the early stages of establishing my farm – I moved here in January 2025 – so this is a great opportunity for someone who’s interested in being part of the beginning of a permaculture-based project. If you’re curious about how to break new ground, observe the land, and design a space according to permaculture principles, this might be the right place for you.
I’m currently studying permaculture design and am in the process of mapping out and observing the land to create a thoughtful, long-term plan. While this first year is focused heavily on observation and planning, I also want to get started with planting some trees and bushes, since those take time to establish.
There’s a wide variety of hands-on tasks to be done, including:
Preparing and digging new vegetable beds
Building compost systems
Putting up fencing
Caring for vegetables and garden areas
Dismantling and rebuilding an old greenhouse
And many other creative and practical tasks around the land
Whether you have experience or just curiosity and a willingness to learn, your help will be very appreciated!Languages spoken

Accommodation and Meals
You’ll be staying in one of two cozy guest rooms on the upper floor of the house. Each room is furnished with a bed, desk, chair, and wardrobe. I live in the third bedroom upstairs. We share a bathroom and kitchen on the ground floor, and there’s a shower and laundry room available in the basement.
I provide three meals a day—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—served at regular times. Breakfast is around 9:00, lunch at about 12:00–13:00, and dinner between 17:00–18:00. I’ll cook most of the meals, but I’d love for us to prepare dinners together when possible. Whatever’s left from dinner usually becomes lunch the next day.
My kitchen is mostly vegetarian and focused on simple, nourishing food. If you have any dietary needs, just let me know and we’ll make it work!A little more information
Internet access
Limited internet access
We have pets
We are smokers
Can host families
Can host digital nomads
There is currently no internet connection in the house. If you need to work digitally during your stay, you will need to have your own mobile internet or data plan that works well in this area.
Space for parking camper vans
I haven’t hosted anyone with a campervan yet, but if you plan to arrive with one, we can figure it out together to make it work. There is access to electricity, water, and space for parking, so we should be able to arrange something that suits us both.
Can possibly accept pets
Well-behaved and house-trained dogs or cats are welcome! Just let me know in advance if you plan to bring a pet so we can make sure it’s a good fit for the space and the other people (and animals) on the farm.
