Description
I have a small farm located approx 40mins south of Christchurch. I have been part of workaway since 2018 and enjoy sharing my home and appreciate help as it enables me to focus on working with the horses I have bred as well as other work and volunteering roles. Spring is my busiest time as I provide a foaling service for mares and raise orphan lambs. Although year round there is always something to do.
I can provide accommodation in my older but warm character home and good home cooked meals in exchange for help. My family farm nearby so there is the opportunity to experience different types of farming if wished. As well as horses I also have 2 dogs and 2 cats so it will help if you are a animal lover. We are close to lots of great places from mountain to sea to explore or if you just need to rest and reset with some quiet time, all good. I can accommodate 1 or 2 people at a time but also happy to help with any request. If you are keen, don't mind some hardwork, have commonsense and like to laugh you will fit in well.
Equine Internship - This is aimed at 1 or 2 participants at a time who have some experience with horses and are wanting to develop their understanding and skill level. I am an experienced rider although have been away from the competitive scene for awhile but want focus on my own young horses training. I also really enjoy teaching and passing on my knowledge especially in ethical training, equine learning theory and biomechanics.
Suitable candidates would need to have some basic handling skills/knowledge and a passion to learn. I can offer training in Groundwork/Handling, Dressage, Jumping in exchange for help with my horses and associated tasks.- contact me for further details. Terms of internship to be negotiated prior to stay.

You will be treated as one of the family and likely get dragged along to the pub quiz I go to weekly. Alternatively, happy for you to have time to go exploring/skiing etc. Happy to share my equestrian knowledge and Equitation Science training principles (Ethical Horse training) . For Equestrians there is often a opportunity to attend a horse show.

Help
There is always plenty of work/projects to do around the house and property from painting, fencing, gardening, feeding animals, building projects and maintenance. Opportunity to ride horses for suitably experienced or help with grooming/care.

Accommodation
Own bedroom with a shared bathroom. House is warm with 2 living areas. It is partially renovated but still comfortable. Home cooked meals provided using mainly local produce, can cater for some food requirements. Breakfast you can help yourself from the pantry - toast/cereal/fruit etc.

What else ...
A car would be helpful as public transport is limited but happy to help out with travel when I can. Small township 10mins drive from farm with supermarket, pharmacy, atm, cafes, pub, Medical centre. Lots to do within 1-1.5hrs drive. Great walks, ecological sites.
