Description
Hello, my name is Sabine and I’m creating a small sanctuary in the hills near Cabarete, called the Intuitive Listening Horse Center. It’s a place where people and rescued horses can connect in a quiet, respectful way.
I’m trained in Shiatsu, and over time, I hope to offer retreats and create a space for seminars and co. alongside the work with animals and nature.
Right now, the center is still developing. We‘ve already set up the basics: a roundpen, some fenced pastures, simple shelters, solar power, a well, and a two-room house. I have five rescued horses – Bob, Shuki, Laila, Samira, and Sofia – and eight dogs who are very much part of the daily life.
The next big step is to build a small house for helpers and continue improving the land and care structures.Types of help and learning opportunities

Travellers will get a close-up experience of life in the Dominican Republic beyond the tourist areas. You’ll see what it’s like to live and work in a rural setting, connect with local people, and get to know the culture through everyday moments. Also you will get the experience of living in a beautiful close-knit community close to the beach.
There’s also the chance to share stories, food, and perspectives with me and others in the community. If you’re open, this can be a space to slow down, reflect, and experience a different rhytm.
You can learn about:
- Working with horses in an intuitive, respectful way
- Basic animal care and natural horsemanship
- Shiatsu and holistic approaches (I’m a trained practitioner)
- Living off-grid and building simply with what’s available
We’re happy to share what we know — and always open to learning from you.Help
Depending on your skills and the time of your stay, you might help with:
- Construction help (wood, concrete, painting, roofing)
- Fencing, maintaining pastures and paths
- Gardening, clearing, basic landscaping
- Feeding animals, grooming horses, cleaning shelters
- Helping with kids’ activities or photography/social media
Experience with basic building or tools would be a great.
It’s also good if you have a driver’s license.
But what matters most is a reliable attitude, and openness to nature and connection.Languages spoken

You’ll have your own private room in my home in Perla Marina, a quiet and secure gated community . From there you can walk to the Beach.
Cabarete is about 10 minutes away, and it takes around 15 minutes with the car to get to the horse center.
You’ll be sharing the house with me and my 8 dogs. There is one flat mate with us in the house and one person lives in a separate small house in the garden. You’ll have access to the kitchen, bathroom, and Wi-Fi.
I’ll provide your accommodation, transport to the horses, and a light daily meal.
There are some shops nearby, and if you enjoy cooking, we can prepare some vegetarian meals together. What else ...
This is a small and personal project, there is a few people in the community that are helping with different things.
In your free time, you can go to the beach (10 min by foot), explore the towns of Cabarete, Sosua or Puerto Plata, do some excursions or find many quiet surroundings here.
Cabarete In general has a super relaxed vibe, with cafés, live music, and it’s easy to meet amazing people from all over the world. It‘s known for it‘s surfing and kite surfing spots.
You’ll stay in a quiet gated community near the beach. The house is calm (as it gets with 8 dogs), and we live a peaceful lifestyle. No loud music or parties, but we do enjoy cooking, talking, and spending time together.
You’ll have your own room and access to the kitchen. I eat vegetarian, and I ask that the kitchen isn’t used to prepare meat. We can happily share veggie meals.
There are 8 dogs in the house, so it’s important that you’re comfortable being around them.
Transport to the horse center is provided every day. You can also get around with motoconchos (local motorbike taxis) or shared cars.
Please send a short message with your background, skills, and at what time you’d like to come. I’m excited to hear from you.A little more information
