Description
We live in a lovely 1920's villa which we are still renovating and we have a large garden that I can't always cope with. We try to grow our own supply of vegetables as organically as possible and we have our own hens and ducks, we have a little old dog called Billie We live in a beautiful rural area on the eastern coast of the North Island and one of our "must-do's" for people staying is a trip out to our local marine volcano as well as our lovely beaches (where 10 people is way too busy!) We cook well and eat well and love sharing our piece of paradise. I am a New Zealand Maori woman, just turned 67 this year and Kate is an English woman, just turned 60.
We welcome anyone of all ages and countries to our home-stay to share our lives with us. This is not a backpackers! We would really like visitors to engage with us and share their lives too - to live WITH us and not around us.
This is how you make yourselves a cup of tea at our place: You lift up the kettle and shout through the house "anyone else for a cup of tea?".
We would like fourish hours a day concerted work - but we are not after slaves - just a willingness and enthusiasm to talk, learn and muck in!
Sorry - no smokers. And we prefer meat lovers, as we are!Types of help and learning opportunities

Help
We like to have little projects for people to do... often gardening but house renovations are always ongoing. If someone likes to cook then we would consider that part of their required work time each day and of course they would be able to choose from our own meat supplies as well as our garden. We sometimes require "house-sitters" while we go away for a few days or more - then we know our animals and gardens will get the best care.

We have one guest room (double bed) in our house with us and we share a bathroom with our workers. We would be termed a home stay place here in New Zealand. We have internet available.
What else ...
Buses come through our town regularly. We have mountain bikes available. We prefer one or two guests at a time only.

We worked in the garden: weeding, removing a fence, picking some chilies and apples... everything was very pleasant and Lyn and Kate always took time to explain us what to do. They also gave us the best advices to visit the area and the East… read more
