    Description

We have take a break from Workaway since 2020, but are ready to host again. A lot has changed in 6 years!

We are a busy family with 3 children, ages 15-22. Our eldest child no longer lives at home, and the younger two are not around much, with their own jobs and activities. We live in a large historic home in the middle of Edmonton, close to downtown, Whyte Ave and the theater district, and the University of Alberta.
I am a school teacher, and my husband works full time from home. We have two large dogs. In the summer, we love to camp, paddleboard, and go for walks in the North Saskatchewan river valley. The rest of the year, it feels like we work all the time!

This spring we mostly need help with preparing and/or cleaning up from meals and other housework, helping to get the garden cleaned up and planted (not until May-June), or if you like, some small household renovation jobs like painting and refinishing woodwork (we can show you how, if this was something you wanted to do).

Important! A note on Edmonton’s weather!! We have snow from October until late April (and sometimes May!). Outdoor yard work and planting does not start until the end of May! Many people who come are surprised by how late spring is here in northern Alberta. Please look up the weather and climate for the time you want to come before deciding if Edmonton is right for you!

We live in a wonderful part of Edmonton - in historic Old Strathcona, just a block away from Whyte Avenue. Close to the North Saskatchewan River Valley with its amazing network of trails, the theater district, the University and downtown, it's a great central base to explore this wonderful city. We are happy to share our renovation skills that we have picked up over the years of renovating this (and our previous) homes.

  • Help

    Help

Our busy family needs help of all kinds. We appreciate help with household tasks such as cooking supper and cleaning up, walking dogs, gardening and yard work, etc. We live in a beautiful 110 year old home in the heart of Edmonton - that needs a lot of work! Some help with minor renovations such as painting or sanding would be appreciated. We are happy to share our renovations skills with you. If someone has experience doing more complicated Reno jobs , that would be great! Jobs in the spring/summer/fall will also include gardening and yard work. We want guests to have jobs to do that they enjoy so let us know what you would like to do.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You would have a private bedroom with a comfortable double sized bed, desk and closet. There are 2 bathrooms in the home, shared with our family, as well as a large kitchen and dining room, comfortable living room and study with a fireplace. We cook many of our meals at home (and almost always supper), and you are welcome to share them with us when we do. When we don't, you can 'fend for yourself' from the pantry and fridge.

We are right in the heart of Edmonton, and walking distance to the U of A and Whyte Avenue. Major bus routes are only a block away, and you would also have use of a bicycle to enjoy the city.

    What else ...

In your free time, feel free to use our bicycles and explore! This city has a wonderful bike path system in the River Valley, and we live only a block away. For those who like shopping and big attractions, the West Edmonton Mall is just a bus ride away.
