    Description

We are creating a sustainable countryside space in a traditional four-sided farmyard in the Saalkreis region of Germany. Our project is focused on cultural exchange, simple rural living, and learning together while slowly developing the place step by step.

We enjoy meeting people from different countries, sharing experiences, ideas, and everyday life on the countryside. Hosting is an opportunity for us to learn from our guests, hear their stories, exchange skills, and create a welcoming community atmosphere.

Guests stay in a simple caravan located in the farmyard and become part of daily life here. There is a famous climbing area nearby, and the surrounding nature offers many possibilities to relax and explore.

The help we ask for is light, non-professional support that people can join according to their interests and abilities. Typical activities include:

    organizing shared spaces,
    gardening and permaculture projects,
    chopping and stacking wood,
    helping around the yard,
    creative outdoor projects,
small DIY or decorative wood projects,
    general maintenance and tidying.

In your free time, you can go climbing, enjoy nature, share meals and conversations with us, or bring in your own creative ideas for the space.

We are especially happy to welcome open-minded, creative, and reliable people, and families are also welcome.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We are a German–South African family with four children, and cultural exchange is at the heart of everything we do.

Life here offers a rich blend of traditions, perspectives, and everyday experiences. As part of our family, you’ll have the chance to immerse yourself in both German and South African cultures, whether through shared meals, storytelling, or simply daily life on the farm (we do not have animals yet but still call it a farm). We love exchanging ideas, learning from different backgrounds, and creating a welcoming, open-minded environment.

    Help

Workawayers can support us with a variety of light, practical, hands-on activities around the farmyard and garden. Tasks may include organizing and sorting shared spaces, chopping and stacking wood, gardening, helping with permaculture ideas, moving lightweight materials, painting, cleaning outdoor areas, or assisting with creative DIY projects.

We are also interested in developing simple sustainable systems together, such as collecting rainwater, improving outdoor spaces, creating a simple outdoor shower area, and finding new ideas for off-grid living. These projects are collaborative learning experiences.

There is always something to do, but everything is flexible and depends on your interests, skills, and energy. You don’t need to be an expert, curiosity, motivation, and a positive attitude are much more important.

If you have experience with sustainability, gardening, permaculture, creative DIY projects, or simple woodworking, that’s great, but it is absolutely not required. We are happy to learn together and exchange ideas and experiences with our guests.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You’ll be staying in a caravan on our four-sided farm, giving you your own private space.
Please note that our setup is simple and still developing:

    There is currently no shower
We use a compost toilet (dry toilet)
Cooking happens in a basic outdoor kitchen area

This lifestyle suits people who enjoy a more natural, low-impact way of living and don’t mind a bit of adventure. It’s a great opportunity to experience off-grid elements and sustainable living practices.

We are continuously improving the space, and you’ll be part of a creative, evolving project.
