    Description

While we are still welcoming enquiries from people interested in farm work we are currently hoping to find someone to help us put a chipboard ceiling in our garage. Do you have some building skills? If so we are happy to negotiate length of stay in return for labour.

Our calendar is closed during February with another booking.

Regenerative Garden Stay Near Byron Bay – Private Apartment for a Two
We live on 5 acres of land within 15 minutes’ drive of Byron Bay, Brunswick Heads, Mullumbimby and Bangalow.
We’ve only been here three years so our gardens are still young, but we’re steadily growing more of our own food with an agroecology approach – drawing on permaculture, syntropics and food forestry. There is always plenty to do, so we especially appreciate people with some gardening experience and a genuine interest in gardening.

    The Work
    Typical tasks include:
    • Mulching (ongoing and fairly physical – reasonable fitness needed)
    • Weeding, seeding and general garden maintenance
    • Looking after the nursery and seedlings
    • Turning compost and maintaining worm farms
    • Fertilising and general soil care
We also do a lot of harvest processing, such as:
    • Collecting and saving seeds
    • Freezing, juicing, fermenting and drying surplus produce
If you enjoy vegan cooking, there’s also the option to:
    • Cook for the household
    • Stock up the freezer with pasties, stews, bakes etc.
    • Help keep everyone well nourished with garden-based meals

    Who We Are
    On the property live:
    • Me (Trina) and my partner Simeon
    • Our two adult sons and their partners
We enjoy working together, then retreating to our own spaces for privacy.

    Accommodation
We offer a private self-contained apartment, including:
    • Bedroom with queen bed
    • Bathroom with bath and shower
    • Living room with a single bed, lounge & desk
    • Your own entrance
    • Located right beside the permaculture garden
There is also a kitchen in a separate (sometimes shared) building which is yours to use for cooking.
We supply as much food from the garden as you can eat.
We ask that no meat is cooked on the property, although you are welcome bring packaged or precooked.

    Hours & Exchange
For one week’s accommodation for a couple, we ask:
    • 10–15 hours of work per person per week (depending on the tasks)
If we’re working together, that’s usually 2–3 hours a day, preferably morning to beat the heat.
If you’re confident to work independently, you can arrange your hours to suit yourselves.
We usually keep weekends free, but we’re flexible.
We usually offer one week at a time (and sometimes extend).

    Send me a message including:
    • Your gardening / farming / permaculture experience
    • Any cooking or food-preserving experience
    • The dates that would suit you
Looking forward to hearing from you and sharing the garden! 🌿

We love to travel and meet people from around the world so when we can't travel we welcome other travellers here. We spend most of our time in the garden and enjoy a swim at the beach or river after a hot days work. On the weekends we love going to the markets or finding a waterfall in the hills. In the evening we like to share a home grown/cooked meal together and maybe have a drink around the fire. On Sunday mornings we go to a food swap where we exchange our extra food with other gardeners. You are welcome to join us for all or some of our activities.

  • Help

    Help

Mulching is big part of what we do. We have piles of wood chip that need spreading through our gardens and forest areas. Some muscle is required but mostly stamina for this job. We also need help with weeding, fertilising, planting and harvesting depending on the day, we like to mix it up to keep things interesting. We also process food ie cooking, dehydrating, freezing, caning etc so help in the kitchen can sometimes be great depending what your enjoy. No one likes cleaning but often cleaning tasks are also available. We will do tasks together a lot of the time but if you (and we) feel confident, you can work independently. We love to share what we know as well as learn from others.

    Accommodation

We offer a private apartment with 1 bedroom, livingroom and bathroom. It has a private entrance and is located right next to the permaculture garden. We also offer a kitchen located in an adjacent building. The kitchen room leads to the music room and gym which others use, but the kitchen itself is for your use. We provide as much food from the garden as you want (this varies depending on season) but you are responsible for your own purchased food. We follow a plant based diet but WWs are welcome to supply their own eggs and dairy if they wish, we ask that no meat be cooked on the property.

    What else ...

We are located less than 15 minutes drive to Byron Bay, Mullumbimby and Brunswick Heads so a car is necessary for getting around. There is no public transport and hills make bike riding a challenge. Please do not contact us if you do not have your own vehicle.
