    Description

Hi! Our Foundation is an NGO which mainly focuses on ANIMAL WELFARE and is based in a village called Wafeghar in Raigad, Maharashtra, India. It is 2 hours away from Mumbai and Pune by road.

It is situated on a 1 acre land with beautiful scenery and lovely animals like dogs, cats, cows and geese.

It is the perfect place for anyone looking to volunteer with looking after the existing animals as well as helping out with dog rescues and assisting when we have our monthly neutering and vaccination camps of local stray dogs.

The team includes animal handlers, veterinary assistants, gardener, security guard and supervisor. The team is very welcoming and hard working but getting extra helping hands during our camps would be welcome. The team strength is 5.

The living quarters are decent, electricity and wifi is included as well as excellent Indian food and tea/coffee.

The centre which is located in Wafeghar is very close to the famous Pali Ganpati temple where a lot of people from around the state of Maharashtra come to visit. Ahead of Pali is the beautiful Tamhini ghat which is a mountain passage. Tamhini Ghat is noted for its surroundings comprising scenic waterfalls, lakes and dense woods.

There are many festivals like Holi, Diwali etc that take place throughout the year which would be interesting for any volunteer to experience.

It would be great for the staff and locals to meet people from different countries and backgrounds and be able to exchange skills and knowledge.

  • Help

    Help

The role of the volunteers would be to help out in the dog kennels. That would entail keeping them clean, feeding the dogs, signing them in, preparing their treatment / case sheets and making the dogs feel comfortable and happy.

The volunteers would get an amazing insight into the plight of stray dogs and how we help treat them on field and at the centre and would also be invited to come catching / rescuing of them.

The criteria for any volunteer who wants to come and stay at our centre would first and foremost be that they have to be animal lovers and secondly that they are willing to help and learn. If they already have experience in animal welfare and also certain skills then we would be happy to learn from them.

The living quarters have electricity, clean water for showers, toilet is a western toilet with a commode, wifi is available. There will be foldable beds with mattress, pillow, quilt and the covers for them. The staff keeps the quarters clean but we expect the volunteer also to keep it clean. Some quarters have attached bathroom and some have them outdoor but close by.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner will all be Indian food and mostly vegetarian. Once a week, chicken curry is served. Tea/coffee will be served twice a day, morning and afternoon. But should a volunteer prefer to drink tea / coffee at any given time then that will be arranged.

There is a strict no smoking and drinking policy at the centre and at the living quarters.

During the off time for volunteers they can be dropped close by where they can take a rickshaw and go to Pali city which is 20 minutes away and visit the temple or buy local arts and crafts and eat at the local restaurants. They can also be dropped to the bus stand where they can take a bus to Khopoli train station and reach Mumbai in 2 hours.
