¡¡Update!! I can only host people who are fairly confident with woodwork or construction at the moment, i need to finish the kitchen asap... Thanks...
Hello all, I'm still in the first stages of constructing and cultivating a home here in sunny sub tropical Malaga.
I'm renting a beautiful strip of wild land by the coast of one of the last stretches of unspoilt mediterranean Spain. The land is a 5 minute walk from a nice village, Maro, and a 40 minute walk from tourist town Nerja.
Just started to put in a little vegetable garden and would like to expand, so would sincerely appreciate some help!
Also doing some light construction...
for example :
kitchen / living área construction
At the moment there is one cabin, where I sleep, so volunteers sleep in tents, which I can supply.
PLEASE SAY IN YOUR REPLY IF YOU ARE OK SLEEPING IN A TENT.
If you have skills such as carpentry I would be more than willing to leave you the cabin and camp for up to 2 weeks though.
MUCH OF THE FOOD IS RECYCLED FROM THE SUPERMARKET BINS in Nerja, but we can talk about what is expected... and we have some nice veg from our garden to supliment . I do have some organic staples though, rice, oats etc. Also, there might well be the opportunity to do a couple of hours weeding in a neighbor's garden for a big bag of organic veg once a week...
The shower is a waterfall in a stream here! There is also a solar shower...
There is solar power for charging phones and watching films of an evening...
So, I don't ask for much, just 4 hrs help a day, 5 days a week..
on Wednesdays we have a communal work day with a group of neighbors (permablitz) in which we will visit another garden to work and eat together afterwards, which is a really nice way to build community.
Due to the nature of the place, volunteers will have to enjoy being outdoors all the time, as it is camping and there is only one structure (kitchen / living room) although there are nice shady areas thanks to our friendly trees.
So That means not being squeemish about insects, and having the ability to be independent and explore the area on their own account, as there will be plenty of free time.
Also not to be too fussy about food, as i get what i can, although i eat heathily and well, vegetarian but with occasional fish eggs and cheese if i find them (i wouldn't buy and support those industries)...
The place is incredible though, there is:
a stream with waterfalls,
sea views (sometimes with dolphins!),
beautiful beaches and mountains a short walk away,
nice people about, and we are in the process of starting a transition town.
Avocado and custard apple trees,
I'm quite nice, and I can give you Spanish lessons.
Ok, I haven't talked it up much, but the place is great, and with a few more hands to help us it will be amazing!
To bring if possible: sleeping bag liner, natural soap, towel and any seeds you'd like to share / swap...
Help with Eco project
I can teach spanish, english, a little of plants, eco construction (although i'm not a carpenter and dont have many tools), there are plenty of interesting neighbors for you to meet, spanish and international...
So there is some light eco construction to do with wood, cane, earth and a little lime perhaps,
Some weeding and digging but mainly watering,
Stairs to cut into terraces,
And also creative decoration of the areas and corners we can use to chill in the shade.
A tent, i can supply or you can bring your own. I have mattresses and plenty of blankets etc. Best if you bring your own sleeping bag liner though.
If you have skills such as building or carpentry I would be willing to leave you my beautiful cabin for 1-2 weeks however.
Mountains, rivers, beaches, villages, tourist towns, the area has it all! granada, orgiva and malaga are short bus journeys away too...
Maximum 4-5 hours a day, 5 days a week
