    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    • Culture: Ottawa is the capital of Canada and so has many interesting museums, art galleries and music venues. There are also many types of dancing groups that you can participate in (often with instruction): swing,; international folk, English, Scottish, Israeli, Contra.. Ottawa is a fairly bilingual area so lots of opportunity to practice English and French. Quebec is just across the river!
    • Physical activity: You can borrow a bike to use on the many bike trails along 3 waterways within the city: the Ottawa River (trails on both the Ontario and Quebec side); the Rideau River and the Rideau Canal.
    • Nature: The Gatineau Park just north of Ottawa has 3 large lakes, and lots of trails for hiking and skiing.

    • Help around the house — Help with cleaning; snow shovelling in winter.
    • General Maintenance — All seasons: help with small repair jobs, painting, etc. Some previous experience please.

The maximum time for work per week won’t vary but the specific times may vary depending on the jobs I need done, the weather and your wishes/activities.

    Accommodation

Workawayers will stay in my home. I am located 1 block from a major transit station and have easy access by bicycle to many lovely bike routes. (you can borrow a bicycle.)
My house has 4 bedrooms and I may have roommates in some. You will have either your own room (if available) or a space that is like a room but has only a curtain (no 4th wall or door).
We take turns cooking, and you can share in this too. I and an omnivore and tend to cook with lots of fresh veggies.
We try to follow the hierarchy of environmental principles: Prevent, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Recycle, Recover, Dispose
