I spent a wonderful month at this animal sanctuary in the Czech Republic. Although it was not my first volunteering experience, it was one of my favourites. As others have already mentioned, Marie is very kind and knows a lot about animal care and gardening. On top of that, she’s one of the best cooks I know.
The sanctuary itself is beautiful,
… read more with plenty of space for the animals and small cabins for the volunteers. All the amenities you could wish for were provided as well, including a shower with hot water, a washing machine, dryer and so on. You can get to know many individuals from different species and their very personal characters. My job involved caring for the birds: letting them out at sunrise and feeding them (plus some pigs and goats/sheep), later in the morning cleaning their homes and bringing fresh straw. In the evening, there was a second round of feeding and around dawn, I closed the birds in for the night. This routine took about an hour and a half and the remaining working time (3.5-4 hours), I helped with mucking out or worked in the garden. So I had a structured day but there was also a lot of variety of things to do – it was never boring.
In my free time, I enjoyed hanging out with the goats and the birds – I really miss Brownie –, giving belly rubs to the pigs or just reading a book. On my days off (two per week), I often visited Prague, which is only one and a half hours away from the sanctuary or even Brno, which is more than three hours away, but still worth it if you stay overnight.
So all in all, both my working and my free time were fun, I learned a lot and got to visit two of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever seen. Thank you Marie, for having me. I would recommend this volunteering opportunity with all my heart!!
We had an absolutely wonderful experience volunteering here. Marie was an incredibly kind, generous and accommodating host that made our stay very enjoyable. Thanks to her we learnt a lot about animal care, how to run a sanctuary, and foraging which was exactly what we wanted to take away from the experience. Marie was incredibly knowledgeable

The sanctuary itself and its surroundings are very beautiful and at times it felt like heaven on earth with the magical sunsets and all the happy animals. We spent most of our time deep cleaning the animal areas and also did other tasks such as gardening, painting and nail sorting. It was an absolute joy to spend time with every one of the cows, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, turkeys, roosters, dogs, cats and the human volunteers. We met many beautiful human and non-human souls and we wont forget any of them anytime soon. We are deeply grateful to Marie for all the tireless work she does to make this world a better place for animals and we thoroughly recommend volunteering at this wonderful sanctuary.

This is an incredible place! Everyone who knows it falls in love with this great project where other animals that have been oppressed, exploited and/or violated are given shelter. I have been very happy here. I like to help them have a more beautiful life...I enjoy every second of them. There are lagoons and lakes around where you can go for a

If you are not plant-based and are worried about food, don't worry, everything prepared here is delicious and if you like to cook you can experiment with new recipes or learn how to cook. You can also learn how to plant and harvest your own vegetables.
I am very grateful to Marie for giving me the opportunity to help other animals and for opening the doors of this magical place where I have lived unforgettable experiences.
Whether you like to be surrounded by people or want to have your own space, you are a hard worker, you like to be around other animals, you want to participate in an important cause, you like nature, meeting amazing people and eating, this place is perfect for you...
