Our stay with Mary was perfect from beginning to end, and even before it officially started.
We happened to get in touch with her just as we were looking for a flexible experience, with little notice.
Meeting Mary truly felt like a gift. From the very beginning, she was open, understanding, and offered exactly what we needed at that moment.
We
… read more were pleasantly surprised by how naturally welcoming she was even though it was her first time hosting, it felt like she had been doing it for years.
She welcomed us into her home as if we were part of the family. She was always flexible with our personal commitments and, most of all, consistently expressed gratitude and appreciation for our work every single day.
Behind her radiant personality and openness lies a deep sensitivity that allowed us to build a personal connection, one that we intend to nurture over time, even now that our Workaway experience at her home has come to an end.
We shared many delicious dinners together, where Mary introduced us to recipes we had never tried before, especially from Asian cuisine. She may tell you she’s not a cook, don’t believe her! She’s fantastic in the kitchen and always comes up with something new and tasty.
But we were never alone at home , with us were also her three beautiful dogs, always adding energy and joy to the atmosphere :)
They kept us company during dinners, gardening work, and even on some walks together.
Mary loves her dogs deeply and is a true example of care and devotion towards them.
Mary’s home is in a truly stunning part of the world , a hidden gem surrounded by nature, with a privileged view of the ocean.
Even just sitting outside and taking in the landscape is a pleasure in itself.
The work we did with Mary was never boring!
We always had something interesting to do, like the garage sale, which we helped organize twice and turned out to be a really fun experience!!
She was always one of our biggest supporters, even for our personal projects and future plans.
Her support felt like that of family, even from thousands of kilometers away from home.
We shared many moments of conversation, connection, and fun.
She even introduced us to the fantastic world of Quiddler. Try to beat her if you can!
These are just some of the many reasons why you should definitely consider sharing part of her journey with her!
See you soon Mary, your loud Italians :)
Where do I even begin? Irene and Mauro were my very first Workawayers, and I truly couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful beginning to this journey.
Before they arrived, I was nervous—uncertain about opening my home to people I had never met. But the moment they stepped through my door, all those fears melted away. Irene and Mauro weren’t just
… read more guests—they became part of my heart, and very quickly, part of my family.
They brought with them a lightness and joy that quietly transformed the atmosphere of my home. Every day they showed up with kindness, laughter, and an intuitive sense of care—not just for the tasks at hand, but for the people (and pups!) around them. They didn’t need to be told what to do; they saw what needed love and attention and gave it freely, and with genuine enthusiasm.
They were thoughtful in every way—from the way they respected the rhythm of our household, to something as simple as comparing grocery prices, always mindful of our shared resources. That kind of care—so quiet yet so profound—speaks volumes about who they are.
But what moved me most was the way they connected with my dogs. They showed them such patience and affection—especially my sweet Chai. Watching that bond grow filled my heart in ways I can’t quite describe. My pups will miss them dearly... but not as much as I will.
Irene and Mauro, thank you. Thank you for stepping into my life with such open hearts. Thank you for your generosity, your laughter, your sincerity. You’ve left a mark on this home and on my soul, and I will forever be grateful that you were the ones to begin this chapter with me.
My door is always open to you. Please come back. And until then, may life lead you gently toward every dream your hearts are holding.
With love, always—

our house sits on 5 acres; most of our property has forest and trees
aerial view of our house and short term rental cabin just after they were built in 2017; we now have more landscaping to maintain (and more weeds, yikes)
Christmas at our property
view from our dining room/kitchen
our house sits on a hill overlooking the ocean
our 3 pups; Finn is a bit of a barker and very protective; he's the 8lb Morkie; bark bigger than his bite. LOL
one of the beaches; there are lots on the Sunshine Coast
Phare Lake; a beautiful hike near our neighborhood; that's a beautiful swan in the photo
our house is the blue one up the hill
