  • What else ...

    What else ...

    A little about me.
I have a deep need to help animals in need. I function mainly with my heart rather than my brain. This leads me to times when I feel exhausted and burnt out. That is why I need help with the animal routine.

During my life as a volunteer I helped create animal and wildlife awareness programs and taught kids at primary schools.

I helped at the first wildlife hospital on Aegina island in Greece and was their representative on the island of Chios, Greece where I received wounded wild animals, gave them first aid and then made sure they securely arrived at the hospital for proper assessment and help.

At the same time I took in animals in need, dogs and cats and found them homes abroad.

With my then partner created the Aegean Wildlife Hospital on the island of Paros, Greece, which still runs today.

Later on, after a life changing operation, I stopped working for living, moved permanently on the island of Chios and decided to care for animals in need, mainly cats and dogs.

While on Chios, I found good, loving families for many of the animals I cared for and helped animals from another shelter on the island find good homes.

Ever since November 2024 I moved to South Pelion with all the animals I care for and have made our home and base here.

During my stay in Pelion I have taken in stray animals from the area and try to find good homes for them.

I am a member of the local animal welfare society, ZAP and I am part of a network of volunteers who feed and water stray animals.

I do not profit, nor am I paid for my 365 days service to animals. On the contrary I pay their medical expenses, medicine and food from my pension.

So this makes me a volunteer too.

I feel the need to say this to potential volunteers as I think most of them do not realise it.

South Pelion is a unique and beautiful area. It is very green and lush. Beautiful beaches are just 1.5 m away. There are lots of nature walks around the area, lots of wild flowers for the floral enthusiasts. There may be skiing in winter.
