    Description

We are a family of 5 (mum, dad and 3 daughters) who live on an 8 acre block just outside of Cavendish VIC in Western Victoria. We are Canadian by passport, but we have lived in Australia for nearly 20 years and have grown to absolutely love the rural lifestyle we have in Cavendish. We own 2 businesses locally - the local pub and also a plastics reycling business nearby.

Our house was built in the 1950's and is very much a farm house set in the middle of farm land. It is our little oasis away from everything. We have a few animals around the place who are very much like our furry family. There is Whiskers the slightly unhinged cat, Wally the "fluffy" labrador, Oreo the GSP (if you know you know), and 3 ducks named Jemima, Hamburger and Romeo. On the larger side we have 2 thoroughbred geldings named Chief and Denny who act as the resident lawnmowers and amusement for our oldest daughter Addison and myself.

Australian summer in the country. Enjoy the quiet, swim in the dam, play games in the lawn, enjoy our outdoor shed/bbq area with amazing views, mix with the locals at the Cavendish pub.

Our place is an amazing base for hiking in the Grampians National Park, an hours drive from the beach in Port Fairy and just generally a great place to get away from it all. We are only a 20 minute drive to Hamilton for all required supplies. Our house isn't huge (3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom), but we most importantly have central heating and cooling to get. you through any hot December / January days!

    Help

We are looking for someone to look after the smaller pets while we are visiting family in Canada while the horses go away on agistment (but if a suitably confident horsey person was kicking about we are open to leaving them home!).

We would like someone (or a couple or family) to feed the pets, keep the gardens weeded/watered and maybe cut the grass if it happens to rain this summer! We are looking at being away for 2.5 weeks at Christmas time, but we are flexible with dates at this stage. As the date gets closer we will firm them up on our end if we haven't already found someone to help out. Ideally we will depart Cavendish around Dec 12-15 and return just before or after New Years.

We are more than happy for people to work from our place and we have an onsite office that is separate from the house which has its own internet connection, power, heating and cooling. We also have excellent internet connection for a rural setting!

    Profile photo of Oreo

    Oreo (4 years)

Oreo is a typical German Shorthaired Pointer. He is energetic and selectively smart. He loves humans and if he had his way, he would be in direct contact with one 24 hours a day. Thankfully he and his labrador brother are crate trained so you get a break from him at night. He loves kids and adults, he is generally terrified of our cat, but gets along with everyone.

    Profile photo of Wally

    Wally (5 years)

Wally is a typical labrador. He loves to play fetch, swim and get belly rubs. He also loves his food WAY TOO MUCH. He is constantly on a diet, but manages to find food no matter where he is. I swear he could survive in the Sierra dessert for months on sheer determination. Otherwise, he is the goodest boy and just wants to be your friend - oh and he really wants you to scratch his back just above his tail. all. the. time.

    Profile photo of Whiskers

    Whiskers (9 months)

Technically still a kitten, Whiskers is super playful and always up for a snuggle. She is indoor/outdoor and comes and goes as she pleases. She generally picks a human to sleep with and loves a belly rub. She is super playful and loves kids more than adults.

Profile photo of Romeo Jemima and Hamburger

Romeo Jemima and Hamburger (2 years)

The three amigos, these guys just wander around the place and do their own thing. If they come up to the house we give them some duck food and in summer we give them a tub of water to play in, but otherwise very low maintenance! They sleep down at the dam each night on their own accord.
