Description
Welcome to our cattle ranch in the Andean mountains just 25 min. away from the international airport of Quito. We are a dairy farm located at 3,000 meters above sea level on a mountain with spectacular views of Cotopaxi volcano and the chain of volcanoes that embellish the horizon. Surrounded by the typical nature of the Andean mountain range, our location offers a beautiful setting with forest for walking or hiking, a historic cave where lava once flowed, and an elevated hill at 3,600 meters above sea level offering a panoramic 360-degree vista that captures the essence of Quito, valleys, volcanoes, and nearby villages.
During your stay, you’ll be accommodated in our spacious colonial Spanish house, where you’ll have your own room with a private bathroom. Our family is involved in the management of the hacienda, with two resident members in charge and others collaborating in their free time. We enjoy a peaceful and serene lifestyle.
We have three dedicated workers for livestock care and ranch maintenance. We are looking for someone with experience assisting with basic farm maintenance, including task related to pasture management, irrigation systems, repairing fences, etc, and knowledge handling agricultural machinery would be a plus.
Nonetheless, we also welcome volunteers eager to learn who enjoy being outdoors and are capable of physical work. A handyman/woman might be a huge help as things on a ranch always need a bit of fixing, however it is not essential. If you enjoy cooking that is a bonus !
We have 4 riding horses that could use some riding to get them in shape and keep them trained, and 2 very sweet dogs that love any extra attention they can get.
We share the land with an indigenous community, and we value harmony with them, maintaining a close relationship.. We would like volunteers that want to engage in projects to support the indigenous community, teaching English to their children and promoting eco-tourism businesses.
We need flexible volunteers who don’t requiere a routine, as task and learning experiences may vary daily. The longer the stay, the more you will learn. While some task are done together, there are also individual responsibilities, so being able to work independently and being a self-starter is important. Whether you come with experience or are a quick learner with a positive attitude, if you enjoy the company of animals, children, and a beauty of nature, then this is your chance to join our family and share the wonder in this privileged and beautiful piece of land. We welcome all enthusiast volunteers willing to contribute to the diverse needs of our ranch.Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Volunteers will have a good experience by interacting with Ecuadorian workers and enjoy a relaxed cultural exchange, gaining insights into customs and family life on a ranch, witnessing our integration with a local community to accomplish daily task.
You will have the opportunity to learn Spanish, engage with the indigenous community and experience their day to day.Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
Volunteers will assist with various task, depending on their skills and preferences. We prefer a volunteer who can commit to stay at least one month, and our current main focus is on assistance with paddocks. When applying, please share your interest with us, and we’ll evaluate how your skills align with our current needs. Your input is valuable in ensuring a mutually beneficial match for your time with us.
- Paddocks: pasture maintenance, grass seeding, fertilization, fence repair, irrigation system, canal cleaning, hose maintenance, sediment removal from the water system, and cleaning of main water intakes.
- Dairy Parlor: milking chores, livestock, care, and assisting with calves when needed.
-Horses: we are in need of someone with horse experience, and we prefer advanced horse back riders. We are seeking volunteers who can assist in putting our horses back in shape, as they haven’t been ridden for a while.
- Teach English: The children from the community are currently learning English, and we would love for you to have a great time with them.
- House: Assistance with meals and basic house cleaning.
The biggest request is that you have a willing and positive attitude, be open-minded and ready to learn a variety of task - you don’t have to master everything. Let us know your strengths and how you can contribute, and we’ll ensure you have a great experience with us.Languages

The ranch has a beautiful spacious old Spanish house, where you will have your own room with beautiful old windows, a private bathroom with a nice hot shower. Meals can be shared with us, or you have the option to cook your own food using a well stoked pantry, fridge, and freezer. We appreciate volunteers pitching in to help with kitchen duties during lunchtime and assist with cleaning dishes after each meal, and keeping things tidy afterward, just like part of the family. Laundry facilities are available.
We have good Wi-Fi service available in the house, and you’ll have plenty of space both indoors and outdoors with a reliable connection.
.What else ...
