Description
We are a friendly, homeschooling family of 5 living in beautiful North-West Tasmania, surrounded by stunning beaches, waterfalls and bush walking trails. We love welcoming people from different walks of life and sharing good food, stories, and practical skills along the way.
Our home is a little rustic (to put it nicely). We are refreshing a neglected 100+ year old home into something charming and cosy.. and while some rooms are halfway renovated and look a little shabby, the guest room, music room and bathroom are all newly renovated. Our focus is on sustainable living, gardening, beekeeping and DIY home projects, so tasks can vary depending on the season and your interests, and may include things like gardening, building projects, helping around the house, working with bees (optional!), lending a hand with general maintenance or sitting down for a good board game or jam with the kids. We’re always happy to match tasks to your strengths/preferences where possible.
In exchange for your help, you’ll enjoy a comfortable place to stay, shared meals, and time to freely explore our beautiful part of the world. Note; 4 out of 5 family members are vegetarian so we cook predominantly healthy, organic vegetarian meals but happy to cater for meat eaters if required.
We value kindness, initiative, and a positive attitude more than perfection, and we aim to create a relaxed, respectful environment where everyone feels welcome.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work, being outdoors, being in the company of children and having new experiences. Reach out if you feel called too, we look forward to hearing from you.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We love spending time in nature and invite you to join us and connect with the broader home school and Tasmanian community. We swim/surf (poorly) in the summer, cook meals over the fire in cooler months, and bush walk to beautiful places.
We are willing to share what knowledge we do have on gardening, beekeeping and homemaking with you, and look forward to learning about you and your interests and culture.
We value art, music, reading and creativity in our home (particularly for the children). They spend many hours a day creating. You are very welcome to join in.
Help
- Organic gardening and yard work-both alongside hosts and solo tasks.
-DIY home projects- there are many odd jobs around the house that need doing. If you are handy with tools or a paint brush you can have a crack at some of them.. or you can assist us in doing them. We are currently renovating our kitchen and laundry. We are novice renovators ourselves so are learning on the job. Happy to learn together.
-beekeeping- we have 3 bee hives. If you are interested you can help Joe inspect hives over the busy summer months and may get some sweet golden Tassie honey as a reward.
- Assistance with basic household chores. With 3 children whom we home school, the house is often bustling and there is always chores to be done. This is not a necessity, as I’m used to doing these things on my own, however if you’re strengths are in homemaking then I wound not say no to the help.

Accommodation
You will have a private small spare bedroom in our home with a double bed with clean, warm bedding and wardrobe for you belongings.
It is next to our bedroom but there is a door you can close any time and we will respect your privacy. We do all share a bathroom which can be tricky at times. There is a public toilet directly across the road at the sports field if necessary (50m walk).
We welcome you to use our shared spaces in our home freely- the kitchen, living room and music room, and hope you feel at home.
I will cook majority of the dinner time meals in our home for you unless you have any meals you would like to share with us. We welcome new foods and experiences.
Joe cooks fresh sourdough every other day and we have an abundance of fresh organic produce in our home always. There are berries, apples, veggies and herbs growing in the garden seasonally.
You can help yourself to breakfast, hot drinks and snacks anytime using our ingredients.
What else ...
On the days we are busy with homeschool meetups you can either join us or drop us and take my car for the day the explore the area.
Public transport is poor in our area. So you will need to borrow our cars for most transport, therefore a licence is necessary. There are busses and taxis in town (15 mins from home) but they are expensive. We can drop you to certain things if you have anything you would really like to experience. Happy to suggest great experiences for you in the north west of Tasmania.
House rules are fairly relaxed. Be kind to one another. No smoking, drugs or drinking alcohol in our home.
