I am a single Mum with 2 incredible children - a 4 year old daughter called Annie-Rose who has just started school and is loving it, and a 2 year old son called Micah who is in part time pre-school and very happy there. A year ago, as I was separating from my now-ex partner, we moved to Upton-Upon-Severn - a pretty town in Worcestershire (officially, the smallest town in England) and we now live just down the road from 'Granny' (my mother, whom the children adore).
The house is smaller than we are used to, with just 3 bedrooms, but in a great location within easy walking distance of the town, the river and beautiful walks (important for Wellington our Labrador!) Your room is a small room but all your own, with a double bed, large wardrobe space and a desk and chair, with a lovely view of the green green front garden.
This is the home for you if you are brilliant with busy bright young kids and love playing, music, the outdoors, being imaginative and making things. You’ll need to be an early riser, appreciating the beauty of the day at 6/7/8am. Hanging out as a family is what works best for us, which works for you if improving your English language skills is your priority. Perhaps you are studying and need some quiet space occasionally or perhaps you are looking for a central UK location to be able to explore UK at the weekends? I have a bicycle you can use to explore the local area, but we don’t have a car. It’s important that you have a fairly good level of English language, at least enough to be able to communicate with my small children, but this home would suit someone who is looking to quickly improve - we will help you! It’s also important that you have a mature attitude, regardless of age, and will communicate when things aren’t right (and when they are 😊). Being kind to my children at all times is a must - even though I am lucky with my children’s behaviour mostly, because of their age they can be challenging and frustrating at times.
Our garden is lovely, fairly big, and with a greenhouse and I hope to introduce a vegetable and herb garden, with some help. I am very interested in permaculture and would love someone to assist me in the fun, challenge and satisfaction of growing some of our own organic food. We already have a fairly productive strawberry patch! I am also going to be starting some creative projects around the house, so if you have an artistic leaning, I would love your help.
We have had several fabulous workawayers now over the past couple of years and we love going with the flow, embracing the chaos and being loving and respectful of each other. We would love someone again who has the same values.
Having someone who can use their initiative and truly wants to be part of our family life is really important (sharing meals and cooking, hanging out, stepping in when things get busy..!) Someone who appreciates the small things, is grateful, humble and genuine would fit in well with us.
There is of course cooking, washing, shopping and cleaning to do, and it is really important that you help me out with these. Team work is the key!
We eat as healthily as we can within a budget (organic where possible) and are dairy free. I myself have just also eliminated all meat from my diet, and will introduce my children to this gradually. We would love to also be gluten and refined sugar free too so we are working towards that. I try to buy wild fish when budget allows and we still eat local eggs. We use essential oils and homeopathy as well as natural (food) ‘medicine’ when we are ill. We are strong supporters of natural health.
Being a single parent, I would love someone I can be friends with and have a laugh, as well as share the more challenging times. And times can be challenging, I have an ex who makes life difficult for us at times, and I have suffered badly from winter illnesses these past couple of years, mainly due to lack of sleep.
There is rarely a strict timetable in our house, although I probably will introduce a bit more structure this time as the children are at school/pre-school more and I need to start building up my coaching business again. I find having a clean and tidy home really helps.
I look forward to someone coming to live with us who can be a true part of our family (see below for a message from someone who has experienced being a member of our family)

Help in the house
We live in Upton-upon-Severn in the middle of the UK and not far from beautiful South Wales. If you would call yourself 'spiritual' (which we are!) beautiful Malvern is down the road with its healing waters and fabulous hills. We are near Birmingham, South Wales (a beautiful part of the UK to explore), Gloucester, Cheltenham, the Cotswolds, and not too far from Bristol and Stratford-upon-Avon, and the countryside is all around us.
In the summer months of June, July and August, the town is a Mecca for people all over the world as we host music festivals such as the Blues Festival, Jazz Festival and Rock Festival. The riverside (the Severn) is a busy and fun place at this time!
Additionally, I am also an intuitive healer, if anyone is interested in becoming involved in helping me with the business, esp website building, or even experiencing my coaching and/or healing, I would be happy to share or devise a way of allowing you to get the 'work experience' that you'd like.
I have a bright, chatty and endlessly curious 4 year old daughter (Annie-Rose) and a 2 year old boy (Micah) who is bright and cheeky and smiles a lot and learning more and more words now. My children are very loving and imaginative and can be full on - you’ll need energy and warm approach. We also have a cuddly labrador called Wellington.
My approach to parenting is uncommon - I practise acceptance and listening over control and commands. It’s important that you support my style of parenting - the number one principle is unconditional Love - if you’d like to learn more about this, the books The Conscious Parent and The Awakened Family will guide you in the right direction (or, ask me if we talk).
I have pretty much been a full-time mum for the past 3-4 years and now that I am a single Mum, I would love to relaunch my coaching business, but time and energy is a challenge, as I am still breastfeeding my 2 year old and am up a lot in the night (as well as starting the day around 5-6am).
I am an older parent, in my 40s and over the past 2 years inviting workawayers into my home, the little ones have really been enjoying having young people in their 20s around - we have had an amazing experience with Workaway so far and made some friends for life. We keep in touch with all our new young friends once they sadly leave us.
As I am still not sleeping so well, having extra help, fun and companionship is such a boost - specifically I need help around the house (cleaning, tidying, washing, cooking, shopping). Wellington also needs (and deserves!) a good daily walk which he is not always getting at the moment. And often it is simply playing with the children to keep them feeling loved, happy and entertained if I have to get on with doing something else. Having some help with meal planning and cooking would also be amazing!
So, we love sharing our home with someone who loves children and dogs who wants to experience being part of a typical English family. I always take time to get to know you first, and then play to our strengths when settling on roles, but right now it would be wonderful to have someone who can cook healthy food (and enjoys cooking and eating it!) and/or has some experience with building simple web sites as I am nearly ready to re-launch my Flow business. But the key things are really day-to/day keeping on top of washing, keeping house clean and tidy AND (main thing) getting on really well with the children (and me too hopefully!)
Would also LOVE someone to speak/teach French or Spanish to us all! (Especially French - we have recently visited our lovely French workawayer in her hometown in St Malo and loved meeting her family and exploring her beautiful culture and country.)
Oh and smoking is a big No-No I am afraid!
A sunny small room with double bed and large wardrobes and views of front garden.
Shared bathroom (our house has 3 bedrooms and one bathroom)
Use of kitchen and living/dining room
Full use of WiFi
There are some beautiful walks nearby which you could explore with Wellington.
It is important to us that anyone staying in our home shares our values of respect, honesty, communication, fun, compassion and gratitude for life. I am open to stays of any length, however short, but 3 months or more has worked out well for us as I’d like you to build a friendship with our family and for Annie-Rose and Micah particularly to have a chance to get to know you.
One of our Workawayers, from Germany, was Milena (Milli). She is no longer on the Workaway website so could not do a review but we are now great friends. We speak to her regularly and the children miss her - she has written this for me -
thinking about what to write to recommend you as a family is connected with many emotions. It was the internship of life I had at your family. After having spent 3 month with two toddlers and a dog in a big house I realized: being mum is tough work. But the love you feel when you see a smiling face licking the spoon after having made dough for a cake is the most rewarding feeling you can get (at least in my case). I was 24 when I was your workawayer. Although I like children, I never thought about having own ones… until I met Micah (the most beautiful baby I’ve ever seen). And you, Victoria as well as Granny, became friends. Leaving you in September 2016 was hard but a new chapter was waiting for me. Now we are still in contact, although not often enough to accompany the two small ones properly on their way to grow up. I´ll try to come as soon as possible to visit you in the beautiful Upton-upon-severn.
And dear possible workwayer who is still not convinced,
if you want to live with a family instead of only doing a job - don’t hesitate. That’s were the life is. As Victoria doesn’t have a certain timetable you will plan on a day-to-day basis. But going with the flow doesn’t mean that you don’t have time for yourself. I did a lot of sports, worked for a small company in Germany and discovered the country on weekends. But, to be honest, I also had a lot of weekends at home. Just, because I enjoyed spending time with the family, going for a coffee, or having a BBQ with their lovely friends. If you want to meet a family with a big heart - go for it!”
I look forward to spending time with you too if you choose to live with us xx
