We are a French-American family, living and working on our dairy farm in the French Alps. Nicolas was born and raised here on the farm, and Hilary came here from California as a farm volunteer and never left! We have two small children, Mayla (4.5 years) and Marceau (2 years), who love being outdoors. We live at the Col de Tamié at 920 meters altitude. We are surrounded by nature. There are many hikes around the house, a monastery just over the hill, a ropes course a 15 minute hike away, many roads to cycle and not far down the mountain is Lake Annecy. The closest towns, Faverges and Albertville, are about 15 & 20 minutes away. And, we make ice cream with our cows' milk! We also have a dog, a cat, 5 chickens, and a horse (and 70 cows).

Help around the house
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
At home, we speak a mixture of English and French. If you'd prefer to practice one of the languages, we'll be glad to help you and focus on that. If you have another language to use with our kids, we'll be happy to have you share it as well - Mayla is interested in learning Spanish and asks all the time how to say words in Spanish. We hope to share with you aspects of French, American and Savoyard (like the cheese, very important!) culture, including the cuisine and our daily interactions.
We are looking for someone to help watch after our kids while we work on the farm and to help with household chores.
Mayla is 4 and in school 4 mornings per week, and Marceau is 2 and at daycare 2 full days per week. The kids love being outside - visiting the farm, going on walks, swimming, playing at the ropes course across the street. They also enjoy games, reading books, making music, playing with dolls, etc. inside when the weather isn't as nice. Help around the house includes helping us keep the house clean, the toys put away and participating in cooking meals. The kids speak English and French, and we would love a Spanish speaker as Mayla is very interested in learning.
In your free time, you are also welcome to help with farm work, such as milking cows, and in the garden. Occasionally we'll need help with our two rental homes as well, although typically someone else takes care of the cleaning. We expect about 20-25 hours of work per week and are flexible with time off, etc.

You will live with us, where you will have your own room. We share a bathroom. Hilary and the kids are vegetarians, Nicolas eats meat, so both are easy for us to accommodate. We will provide food and expect that you will help to prepare meals as well.
We love having Workawayers and others come to stay with us, and we've had great experiences with Workaway. On your days off, we can drive you to one of the towns if we are going there already. There is a bike trail from Faverges and a bus that goes to Annecy. The Fort de Tamié (ropes course) is within walking distance from our house. The Abbaye de Tamie is also just over the hill. And there are many hikes and bike trails as well!
