Description
Hi Workaways!
*** LAST MINUTE REQUESTS ENCOURAGED!
July 4-10th especially but happy to have you before or after to hang out. Your only responsibility will be making sure an outside kitty gets meds in the morning and night. And clean inside litter boxes. Piece of cake! The rest of the time you can just hang out. 2 inside cats are on auto feeders.
Please ONLY apply for this if you have had cats. Like, actually familiar with and LIKE cats. This is imperative. You will have to do basically no physical work while I’m away. If you stick around longer, I could use a little help with the lawn or outside painting.
****END RANT*****
****USUAL IN-TOWN PROFILE IS AS FOLLOWS*
I'm Robin, a San Diego, California transplant living in New Orleans on and off since before Hurricane Katrina. I’m a global wanderer and general unicorn. I’ve been a long term backpacker my whole life, with too many countries under my belt to mention without sounding like bragging. I am no ageist, I feel about 25 and welcome people all ages, races, preferences. 420 friendly. Entheogen friendly.
You will have your own room either with a en suite bathroom or queen room with detached bath, depending on if you’re a couple or your skill set. Plenty of parking space and even RV space and electric hookup in backyard.
The one thing that is IMPERATIVE is that you have current means of financial support. This is not a place to stay because you’ve got nowhere to go. I’ve had many problems with people in precarious situations where they run out of money and I have to bail them out or they get sucked into the 24/7 New Orleans drinking life . My best experiences are with digital nomads or short stay foreign travelers. For this reason, I don’t expect much, you’re more like a Couchsurfing guest who helps encourage me to accomplish things.
Mostly just help with watching the pets and house while I am away here and there or if you get bored and want to paint a mural, I’ve got a lot of walls to experiment with!
If you are a muralist or are interested in learning PLEASE hit me up! I’ve got a lot of paint, a projector and a ton of space to get creative. I will absolutely feed you and pay if committing to this project.
I don’t require or expect hours, it’s more project based so total flexibility for you. I want it to feel like your home for your stay, not like a job.
If you are just a short stay while I’m in town, we can mow the lawn together or something , super boring and I feel guilty asking but I really love travel exchange and prefer to do it this way than rent the room.
My neighborhood is fascinating and awesome with a rich culture history and unique mix of people so do a little research on New Orleans and the area called "Treme" (there is also a great HBO show set in this neighborhood called Treme) to make sure it is a good fit for you! If you’ve never travelled a developing country or come from a sheltered suburb this neighborhood and city might not be the place for you. New Orleans is very…involved…people love to talk to each other and my neighbors are sometimes all up in your business in a friendly way. It’s generally pretty entertaining but can be a nuisance if you’re not accustomed to people holler at you from down the street and wanting to meet you.
As this is a loose arrangement without schedule or set hours expectations so I don’t generally provide food (loop back to the you need to be financially prepared). But I do have all your kitchen basics like oil, spices, sugar, coffee, milk, tea and always happy to share what I do have. People who have contributed way more than my expectations, I do buy for.
High speed wifi with fire tv and many channels. Outdoor patio and porch, lots of street and behind gate parking. And there is a professional MASSAGE CHAIR!

Accommodation
3 bedroom house. Two rooms are fully furnished and available. Last room has a modern futon but functions more a a naturally well lit yoga & project studio small office with a desk workspace.
Bikes included, it is a quick 5 min bike ride/20 minute walk to the French Quarter.
You will have your own bedroom with a bathroom or a bedroom with bath outside it depending on who is here at the time. Both are very comfortable. King and queen bed. Usually I take the little bed in the project room if house is full.
I have washer/dryer, WIFI w/Netflix, hulu, HBO.
Off street parking. -
What else ...
There are endless things to do around NOLA, you will love it. Getting around is fairly easy with the bike share I provide (I have two memberships)

My animals / pets
Goopy (154 years)
Crusty outside cat. Usually looks like he is falling apart because he is. Most teeth have been pulled, his eye leaks, his mouth stinks and he loves you like no cat ever will. Saved him from dying and now he follows me around the yard like a dog. Loves to do yoga with me. Mostly outside but pops in time to time to kick some toys around and poop in a little box even though he has the entire massive backyard.
Ketu (2 years)
Lady of the house. Will follow you absolutely everywhere, very needy emotionally, doesn’t cuddle or like to be pet much. But absolutely loves to be standing guard over you.
Rahu (3 years)
Main cat. Indoor/Outdoor. Prefers to prowl, comes in for naps, treats and sleep at night. Too regal for true cuddles . Occasional lap sitting.

She joined my other wonderful workaway, Abby and was able to overlap perfectly to take care of my senior dog while I was out of town. She’s your textbook example of how awesome Gen-Z is and how much we can learn from their open, and uniquely involved experience. She’s got such an open mind and heart and true compassion … read more
I love Abigail so much, I wish she were still here. I hadn’t hosted a workaway in over a year after having some negative experiences and I am so incredibly thankful she found me. She totally flipped my attitude back to positive about this exchange as a whole. I don’t think you will come across a more kind, thoughtful upbeat person … read more
Robin made me feel at home from the minute she picked me up from the airport. She is down to earth and easy to relate to. She introduced me to her friends and her family. I instantly felt like I was apart of a supportive community. She … read more
