Description
We are Tim and Eline, partners for 27 years, originally from Belgium and now living with our four children in the beautiful countryside of the Dordogne, France.
About six years ago, we made the move to rural France and settled on an old farmhouse that we have completely renovated ourselves. Over time, we’ve developed the property into a lively place with several gîtes and guest rooms, surrounded by nature. Our home is located far from busy city life – in a peaceful and authentic environment. The nearest town is Sarlat (about 40 minutes away), which is definitely worth visiting for its charm and history.
We live here with our animals: horses, sheep, cats and a dog, and we enjoy a simple outdoor lifestyle close to nature.
In exchange, we offer a comfortable private room with your own bathroom, and meals with our family (sometimes vegetarian, sometimes not). We usually work around 5 hours a day, 5 days a week. Keeping your living space clean and helping with daily household tasks are part of the normal routine (we are not a hotel 😊) and are not considered as working tasks.
In our free time, we often spend time outdoors together: walking, being in nature, or horse riding.
Because of our remote location, having your own car is necessary, as getting around is not easy otherwise.
We are a warm, open family who appreciates respectful, motivated and independent people. If you enjoy nature, hands-on work, and family life you will likely feel at home here.
We look forward to welcoming you!

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Staying with us is more than just helping out – it’s really about sharing daily life, experiences and ideas.
As a family with Belgian roots living in rural France, we naturally combine different cultures and languages in our everyday life. We speak Dutch, French and English, so there is plenty of opportunity for language exchange in an informal and relaxed way.
We like to involve Workawayers in our daily rhythm: sharing meals together, working side by side on practical projects, and spending time outdoors. Life here is quite simple and connected to nature, which many people experience as a refreshing change from busy city life.
Because we are developing a learning center focused on philosophy, psychoanalysis and culture, there is also space for deeper conversations and exchange of ideas, if that interests you. We enjoy discussing different perspectives, life paths and ways of thinking, but always in an open and respectful atmosphere.
You can also learn practical skills here, especially in woodworking and building, as Tim is a professional carpenter and enjoys sharing his knowledge with those who are interested.
In your free time, you can explore the surrounding nature, go for walks in the forest, or spend time with the animals. Sometimes we do activities together, like walking or horse riding.
We are open to people from different backgrounds and cultures, and we value mutual respect, curiosity and a willingness to share.
For us, cultural exchange means learning from each other – in simple moments, in conversations, and in working together.

Help
We welcome people who enjoy being part of daily family life and who are happy to contribute in a relaxed, informal way.
The help we ask for is varied and always non-professional (not for our business). It mainly includes:
- Gardening and helping in the vegetable garden
- General upkeep of the land and outdoor spaces
- Small, simple DIY tasks around the house
- Occasional help with the children
From time to time, you may have the opportunity to observe or assist in small, non-technical aspects of ongoing projects, always in a learning context and never as a replacement for skilled or professional work.
Our main motivation for hosting is cultural exchange: sharing daily life as a family, meeting people from different backgrounds, exchanging languages and perspectives, and offering a place where you can experience a slower, more nature-oriented way of living.
We also enjoy learning from our guests – their stories, skills, and ways of seeing the world are an important part of the experience for us.
Languages
Languages spoken

Dutch: Fluent
French: IntermediateThis host offers a language exchange
We speak Dutch, French and English; our French is good, and our children speak it fluently as they go to school here. This creates a nice opportunity for informal language exchange in a relaxed setting.
Accommodation
We offer comfortable rooms that are either part of our renovated farmhouse or our gîte. The rooms are simple, clean, and cozy, giving you your own space to relax.
Depending on availability and the period, you may stay in the gîte or in one of the guest accommodations, but always with a good level of comfort and privacy. You should be aware, however, that we live quite remotely and Wi-Fi can be unstable. We prefer people who are not preoccupied with technology and who come here to experience a simpler way of life.
Meals are shared with our family. We usually eat together and enjoy this as an important moment of the day. There is no special cooking for Workawayers—you join us at mealtimes and eat what we prepare. Our food is varied – sometimes vegetarian, sometimes with meat – and we keep things simple.
Keeping your living space tidy and helping with everyday household tasks is part of the normal routine (we are not a hotel 😊) and is not considered as working tasks.
Work usually starts at 9:00 a.m., so we expect everyone to be ready to begin on time.
Our place is peaceful and surrounded by forest and nature, which makes it a calm environment, but also means that having your own car is highly recommended if you want to explore the area independently.
What else ...
We have a large dog who lives with us on the property. He is very friendly and used to people, but it’s important that you feel comfortable around big dogs.
Our place is in the countryside, quite remote and surrounded by nature, which makes it peaceful—but keep in mind that living in a rural area means there are naturally insects around! Also, with four children in the house, there can sometimes be a bit of lively activity, which should be taken into account.
Life here includes being around animals, nature, and a busy family, so flexibility, patience, and a positive energetic attitude are important.
