    Description

    Hola viajeros!

My name is Axel, I was born in Argentina and for a few years I have been a nomad working as a freelance photographer.

I have just settled in Asturias, in a townhouse in Bierces, where there are just over fifteen houses in a rural environment.

This place is ideal for those travellers or nomads who are looking for a quiet place to spend a few days while they plan their next destination or continue their trip through northern Spain.
There are no businesses here and there are practically not many neighbours. There is silence, tranquility and nature, making it an ideal place to relax, go for a walk or read.

Ideally, I can host volunteers for a period of 1 week, with the length of stay also being flexible.

Our intention is that you, the volunteers, can help us with some of the tasks described below, having the freedom to do so at your own pace.

Although about 4 hours of volunteer work per day is required, this is also flexible because since they are tasks, they can be done in a shorter time if you decide to do so.

Basic meals will be included during your stay, and it is possible that you can also cook with the ingredients in the kitchen. These ingredients are: brown rice, whole wheat pasta, seasonal fruits, seasonal vegetables, eggs, jams, oats, legumes, coffee, tea and infusions, soy and oat drinks, etc.

At home we eat a healthy diet, we don't smoke or drink alcohol. We respect everyone's habits, we simply prefer to avoid them in our environment.

At the moment, we cannot receive couples or more than 1 volunteer at a time since the bedroom is small and only one single bed fits as you can see in the photo.

I have also been a Workaway volunteer for several years and in different countries, so my intention is to describe everything as best as possible so that you know what you will find when you arrive here and what your experience can be like.

The motto of Asturias is "Natural Paradise", where you can find beautiful beaches within a 30-minute drive, Picos de Europa and other mountains within another 30 minutes by car, and numerous rivers and towns everywhere.
The capital, Oviedo, is the cleanest city in Europe. The local people are very friendly and helpful, and it will be like a haven for digital nomads, as local laws are already changing to help people working remotely to move and settle here too.
I was a part time Spanish tutor, so can be a plus for you if you're interested in practice your Spanish skills.

    Help

We currently need help with the following projects I have underway:

1- Chicken coop. There is a lot of wood and wire mesh to build a chicken coop, there was one previously, so it has to be rebuilt. Half the walls are fine, as is the ceiling.
2-Workshop. Tool storage needs to be organized. You will simply have to remove all the things and put them back in an orderly manner.
3-Bicycles. There are 2 bikes that need to be checked and repaired, and it is possible to fix one using parts from both.
4- Garden. The garden is small, the little work that needs to be done is removing the weeds around the vegetables and around the sidewalk of the house.
5-Cook. In the kitchen there is a charcoal stove, the same one that was used in the past and that all the houses in these towns have, so to cook you have to light a fire. I usually cook several things during an afternoon to have food ready for the next three or four days, I even cook a lot to store prepared meals in the freezer.
6-Website. I have a domain and hosting, and due to lack of time I have not yet asked to upload any WordPress template. One of the projects is to build a blog. It is even possible to use AI to speed up the process.
7-Video. I have a project to record and edit daily garden activities. It would be a great help to start using video post-production.
8-Common household tasks. Clean, order and organize. There aren't many things in the house, so it's easy to keep organised.

Normally, I work in the mornings from home, on the computer or recording and editing, and in the afternoons I work outside, making my schedule very flexible.
Possibly, for some hours you can be alone working on some tasks that we need help with, making your help hours also flexible, so that you can organise them on your own time, whether in the mornings or afternoons.

The closest town is called Infiesto, and it is the capital of the Piloña council. It is 4km away, it takes about 10 minutes by car and there are also trails to get there on foot. There are supermarkets, pharmacies, cafes, restaurants, health services and also a bus stop and train station.

The capital, Oviedo, is about 45 km away. You can come and go by bus or train. There are numerous cultural and leisure activities and popular festivals in towns throughout the region. Also several markets and fairs.

The house where I live is a typical village house, where families who worked in agriculture and with animals such as cows, donkeys and horses once lived.

Downstairs there is a living-studio, where there are two desks to work on, one of them with a 27” iMac and the other can be used as needed.

A kitchen-dining room, where we have breakfast, lunch, dinner and carry out all activities related to food.

On the upper floor there is a room where I sleep and a room prepared for volunteers.

Then a hallway that we have transformed into a reading room and we also thought about adding a work desk, and finally the bathroom.
