    Description

We're a little eco-community in the making in the heart of the Serra de São Mamede. We moved on our land in September 2024 with the vision of creating a sustainable, intentional community. "We" includes my partner Miriam and our Kids (6 and 2) and dog Yuma. In our community group there are two more parties (a family with 2 Kids and a couple) who are in a transitional phase and visiting here occasionally. After traveling for 2 years in our campervan (mainly in Portugal) we decided to move to the Serra de São Mamede, where we found this beautiful land, that provides already a lot of abundance (dozens of old fruit and nut trees). We endorce the values of permaculture and try to apply its principles on our land. There are 2 ruins on our 1,6 hectare land, lots of spring water and many hidden spots to be discovered (we have 2 quarries!?). We're in the middle of the Serra, with only 4 neighbors, with the most of our land being completely remote in nature. Around our land you can explore the Serra directly by foot or by bike. It sounds like paradise and to be honest for us it is :)
We are open for curious individuals and families to join our project!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We're happy to share our knowledge about our passions: permaculture, Non-violent communication, history, gardening, alternative education, hypnotherapy, awareness, vegan international cuisine and much more. We have many friends and other projects around the area. There is a very vivid alternative neighborhood in the Serra, with concerts, workshops, alternative markets and more. There is always something interesting going on. I work at the forest school nearby (where our son also attends), if you're interested in nature education. The forest school (about 20 minutes away by bike) is also a nice social hub with lots of awesome people to meet.

In our private homestead there are many things to do: shaping and observing the land according to permaculture, light help in the household, projects with the kids, help us with gardening, playing with our dog Yuma and much more. We'd like to integrate your own ideas into our processes. Feel free to choose what suits you best and follow you're rhythm (we were workawayer for 2 years ourselves).

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You will stay in our beloved camper-van, that was our home for almost two years. It is very spacious (in terms of a camper-van of course) and offers 2 beds. It has a dining area (can be changed to a bed), an equipped kitchen with a gas stove, a functioning gas heater and running water. Close by to the camper-van is our compost toilet. At the moment we only have a solar shower in our green house. Our land is crossed by a beautiful little creek with spring water all year long. We have a tank that we use as a pool :)
We live in a yurt, where we eat our meals until the warmer days will come. We're vegan, our shared meals would hence be always vegan (we love to cook internationally).

The next village is Porto da Espada, with 2 cafés and a traditional bakery (under 10 min by bike). The Roman Village of Ammaia is also close to us (15 min by bike). In Portagem there is a mini-market, the forest school and a nice river bath (20 min by bike). The medieval castles of Marvão and Castelo de Vide are also in the region. There is a bus going from Porto da Espada to the district capital Portalegre (25 min by car), but it only runs twice a day.

The access to our property is pretty easy (just 300 meters of flat unpaved road). We have a flat meadow for camping. Your camper should not be longer than 6,5 meters. With 6,5m it can be a bit of a challenge to get out, but it has been done already.

Our female dog Yuma is 1,5 years old. She is very playful and attention seeking, older and calmer dogs might get a bit stressed out by her (but after time she accepts). If you also have a female dog we'd have to see how it would work out.
