Description
Hello, Workawayers!
This is a 400 years old Zen temple.
Our temple is very unusual: in addition to the traditional temple space we have also two DJ booths, a bar&cafe space, a sophisticated lighting and sound system and a thrift shop inside.
We hold various events where you can get away from regular life and fade into a surreal dreamland. You are most welcome to join. We are always working on new projects to create a lively temple community and we welcome your creative input. Now we are working on rebuilding storehouses around the temple, arrange the garden and try to create new spaces for performances. For all that your help will be greatly appreciated. (Please note: we are non profit, events are solely on a donation basis).
About us:
The head priest of the temple (36) is also a DJ and his younger brother (32) is a performer.Types of help and learning opportunities

You will live in a multi cultural environment.
You are welcome to take part in our various events and ceremonies at the temple.Help
We are especially looking for people with carpentry and woodworking skills. We need help for general maintenance, repair jobs and gardening.
Our next projects will be building a wood deck, an outdoor pizza oven, reforming an old store house, creating space for outside performances, building trails in the mountain around the temple and many more.
Usually we would like you to help three hours a day, 5 days a week.
If a project needs more hours a day, we will provide your lunch and you will get more free time on another day.Languages spoken

The house you will be living in is surrounded by nature and is just one minute walk from Temple. You can hear frogs and animal voices and see fireflies dancing in summer.
Your room is Japanese style with futon.
You can freely use the kitchen and common space.
Please cook your own meals and keep the place tidy and clean! What else ...
For grocery shopping and daily necessities you may use our pick up truck, therefore an international driver's license is absolutely necessary. You can also use our motor scooter with an international driver's license.
Our place is located in a beautiful city called Suzaka in Nagano prefecture, about two hours from Tokyo.
It has very convenient access to/from Nagano station (a 25 minute train ride on the local line).
From Suzaka station you can get a direct bus to the house where you will be staying.
It is a one minute drive to a Seven Eleven convenience store, and five minutes to the nearest supermarket.A little more information
