    Description

Our home located on a working farm, approximately 5 - 10 minutes drive from Oamaru. We are a family of 2 adults and 3 young adult children (one is currently at home helping on farm and the other 2 visit occasionally). We rear and fatten bulls year round and dairy graze cows over winter, and have a small flock of sheep, plus chickens, ducks, Kune Kune pig, 3 x alpaca, 5 x farm dogs and 2 cats (the cats live inside our house).

From August to October I’m busy rearing calves so help around the house and garden would be appreciated as I tend to neglect them. We don’t need help with farm work.

Experiencing life on a New Zealand farm will be of interest to travellers, and being away from large cities and in a more rural environment.
My husband and I travelled when we were young and now the kids have left home are trying to again (when we can get away from the farm). Our kids are now planning their own overseas adventures. I also run Farmstay accommodation on farm and enjoy meeting our overseas guests.

AUGUST, SEPTEMBER , OCTOBER 2026. - I’m super busy rearing calves this time of year and need help keeping on top of the following - preparing vegetable gardens, tidying up the garden in general, painting an outside deck, housework, some evening meal preparation. Minimum stay 1 week.

Travellers need to be able to work unsupervised, have a current WHV and your own transport. Non-smokers/vapers only. You will need your own transport - there is no public transport available.
We are offering accommodation, basic breakfast (cereal/toast), lunch (usually things like sandwiches) and dinner (this is our main meal of the day) in exchange for 4 hours of work a day. Our meals are basic, I’m not a fancy cook and also don't cook gluten/dairy free. We are unable to cater to allergies. You have to provide your own snacks and drinks.
We only have 200GB wifi a month so are unable to provide unlimited access.

    Accommodation

The accommodation is within our home - the bedroom has a king bed. Shared bathroom facilities - shared with our 25 year old son who is working on farm over winter and occasionally our daughters who sometimes come home to visit for a short time.

    What else ...

We would love someone who is quiet and respectful, and non-smokers/vapers essential (although currently our son is home and he smokes outside but we are hoping he will quit as its a stinky filthy habit 🤪). Working Holiday Visa required. You will also need your own transport, especially if you want to sightsee around Oamaru. Our place is definitely not a party place, we are pretty quiet and tend to go to bed early/wake up early. If you like a simple lifestyle, the countryside and animals, then our place will suit you.
