    Description

We are a young couple from the UK who have moved to Montenegro, we have been here on and off for 3 years but now permanently. We found the property after traveling around Europe in our homemade campervan for 10 months doing many workaways, we like to think we know what’s important to a volunteer experience as we have experienced both the good and the bad.

We have a beautiful house and land in the remote north a territory (close to Plužine). We have plans to start self-sufficient homestead, growing vegetables and having turkeys, pigs and chickens.

George (30) is a mechanical engineer by profession, but has also worked in agriculture and construction. Monica (25) studied graphic design and loves anything creative and looking after animals.

We have quite a lot of land that is suitable for farming. The area is stunning, we are 1400m altitude with views of the Tara canyon going into Bosnia and the Piva canyon a 15 minute walk behind our house. With almost zero light pollution the Milky Way is visible most nights.

We enjoy making barbecue in the evenings and relaxing with our many friends that live locally, there’s always someone who turns up for a beer/rakija or coffee, the village community is very welcoming, always happy to help out and they are always interested to talk to someone new. We enjoy walking our soft hearted dog, Ted, in the woods, he always loves having someone new to show around. We also have two lovable cats.

The Tara canyon is 10 minuets drive from us, and white water sports is also something we try to make the most of. Piva lake is also close to us and we often take our 2 person kayak there, the beautiful blue water is warm in summer, and great for fishing.

We both like to cook, we try to eat as healthy as we can with a varied diet with plenty of vegetables and locally sourced meat and cheese. If you enjoy quiet, relaxed environment with amazing views, this is for you.

We welcome volunteers to help with tasks in our home and garden and not with any tasks related to a business or in spaces for future paying guests.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We have a lot of friends locally, who we visit often you can really get the feel for how people live here in the mountains in a self sufficient way. We are learning the local language and would love to have someone who can speak it fluently to practise with.

  • Help

    Help

What we would like is someone enthusiastic, we welcome help with painting, and basic maintenance such as collecting wood for fires and helping us fix fences. George is happy to teach you the skills for basic maintenance. You will never be asked to do a task you are not comfortable doing, if you don’t know-we will do it together.

We also welcome help with general homestead tasks, if you can cook that’s a big plus, we like to cook but it’s great to experience someone else’s cooking, and of course we don’t expect you to cook for us all the time.

Most importantly we enjoy good company, getting to know new people and enjoying our time here.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

During your time off we can recommend places to visit/activities, we are next to 3 national parks all within an hours drive. As mentioned we have a kayak you are welcome to use. We are very remote, an hour to the nearest town so we are more than happy to help with pick up/drop off from Plužine or the boarder with Bosnia (Scepan Polje)- there is good bus connections to both places. Nikšić is possible if we are going there anyway.

    House rules-
No fires outside the bbq area
    Clean up after yourself
Leave the accommodation as you found it
Do not put cigarette ends on the ground!
