It is hard to find proper words for how fantastic host Iveta is. We (me and my two sons) got very warm and homelike welcome, turbocharged with excellent meals, that Iveta prepared (oh my... that plum cake w/ streusel topping, or gazpacho from homegrown tomatoes, or chanterelle creamsauce (mushroom - Cantharellus cibarius), homemade cookies, smoked
… read more white fish, and one could continue on and on... awww...). Our stay was very much like visiting our own family member that happen to have a house at the seashore - with garden, lovely dog, Kleo and all strategic equipment a boy needs for a seaside holiday (kite to fly, variety of spades and shovels to dig the sand on the beach with, surfboard, desk games, and much more).
We were lucky in picking the right time (and just right weather) for coming - to enjoy swimming in the sea, rushing into the waves, building sandcastles, paddling Irbe river, paddling even the sea on the boat, run on the beach, enjoy long warm evenings and watch falling stars (Perseids) at night.
Iveta is very easy to talk to about anything from nature, to history, travelling, books, crafts, politics, culture, food... and we had very lovely evenings by a campfire, roasting sausages (and getting rid of old branches and timber) or when her lovely friends from nearby came for visit.
But she is very able organiser as well, even among all these pleasures and lovely homely atmosphere, that she and her house offers, we were still able to get the job done as planned - she got all the materials and all the equipment needed for finishing the projects and to experience the good feeling of having the work done and to see and feel the results, which is rewarding itself.
I would give six stars rating out of five if there will be a chance. Thank you, Iveta, for fantastic time!Left by host for Workawayer (Jan)
Jan with his support team Prokop (7) and Hinek (10) are superstar workaway’ers - you are lucky to have them around. Jan is an architect and it showed in every task he approached. He is a true professional in woodworking, as well. Jan's skills and approach to work exceeded any of my expectations and enabled him to execute the work in a manner that
… read more I could not even dream of. Jan’s main task during his stay was to build a pergola, which he did with the utmost respect and precision, given the limited materials and resources available. He even brought his own instruments from home to do the job and didn't mind having to continue working extended hours to finish the project. In addition to building the pergola, Jan also repaired the outdoor benches and the table, replaced decking of the footbridge and removed the roof growth from the shed. Meanwhile, Prokop and Hinek's main tasks included burning branches and old timber and to execute excavation works - the sand hill in the yard and the old stump on the beach, which was successfully accomplished in due time. All three of them were excellent guests - patient, modest and self-sufficient. I would be happy to welcome them back to enjoy the fruits of their work. I certainly recommend Jan and his teammates to other workaway hosts and wish he could use new experience in hosting by himself, too.
Jan, the pergola you built here will please other guests of this house many more times and will remind about your effort and input during this summer of 2024! Thank you so much!
Barbara, Ken and Matia are five star workawayers - sincere, unpretentios, hard working, fun and friendly. I was astonished by the energy and commitment they all radiate. For one week we worked together to clean the ditch, cut the trees, burn the bushes and branches, split the firewood. It was a hard work that I could not finish for several years.
… read more Ken is experienced chainsaw operator, and his work was priceless in finding his way through the "jungle". He also taught us how to run a chainsaw and how to efficiently cut logs. Barbara is real steam engine - going in full speed and sparkling energy to the others. She made a new plant bed in my garden, and gave much needed help in cleaning up the "jungle". She also is a great cook, and I learned several new recipes from her. Matia, the fireman, was in charge of burning bushes, digging old stumps and chopping logs for firewood. In one week they all did a tremendous progress in a project, that otherwise would take me several summers to do. I am so very, very thankful and would certainly recommend they to other hosts and accept this team again, if Latvia was on their way once more.
On my side, after a day of hard work I tried to keep the team even more busy by showing them around our beautiful region - Dundaga, Kolka, Kuldīga and Ventspils. In the evenings we also went mushroom hunting and blueberry picking. River rafting on Irbe as a highlight at the end of this amazing week together. Thank you guys and hope to meet you again sometime! Hugs and best of luck in your workaway travelling plans!
What a lovely unforgettable experience on the Liv Coast in Latvia! Iveta is the number one host. She welcomed us into her house with open arms. We all worked very well together clearing a ditch, cutting timber and splitting firewood. It was a perfect balance of work and play.
Iveta always made sure that we had everything we needed and spoiled us

Iveta has a great knowledge of Latvian history both national and local. She is a beautiful person who makes everybody feel comfortable and at ease. Thank you!Feedback
