Description
I live in a friendly, character-filled, 100 year old house with a large rambling garden in an outer suburb of Melbourne. The house is cosy, clean, busy and full of stories. Two of my grown up children are still at home working and studying and we are a relaxed and happy family. There are often friends and family members dropping in to say hi. Our small poodle-cross is also a much loved member of our family. Although social, we also enjoy our peace and quiet.
The garden is productive with vege patches, fruit trees and established native trees, based on permaculture principles. We have a plunge pool that we use in the summer months.
The property is a short walk (400m) to shops and the train station with a direct train line to Melbourne city. There is a bus stop 50m from the house. We are close to the Birrarung (Yarra river) and the beauty of the Yarra Valley.
The local area is safe, clean and friendly. -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We are a musical household and we all play instruments. My son is very interested and skilled in restoring old cars. My daughter and I are very keen on gardening and permaculture. She is very talented in art (painting and drawing) and we all enjoy books. My kids have German and Slovenian heritage. My son studied German and we would warmly welcome any German speakers (as well as any other languages). You will need to be happy around our dog. We would love to have someone stay who enjoys cooking so we can learn some new recipes!

Help
Our garden is lush and overgrown at this time of the year. I would love someone with some plant knowledge who is confident to weed, prune and tidy. There are times we would do this together and other times it would be without direct supervision. We do not use sprays or chemicals on our garden.

Accommodation
We have a comfortable single bedroom to offer in the house. If you are a couple we can potentially add another bed. There is a private bathroom that is separate from the house available for workawayers.
Food will be available for workawayers to cook, or they are very welcome to join in family meals when these occur. Breakfast and lunch are self-serve. -
What else ...
Public transport is very accessible to the city. The area is close to beautiful bike riding trails, the Birrarung (Yarra) river, Sunday farmers market, walks and shops. For music, food and theatre lovers, Melbourne is top class.
We value socialising and also peace and quiet as we are a working/studying family so a balance is welcomed. -
