  • Description

    Description

We are a Portuguese-American family of 3. We have a four-year-old son, three dogs and three cats. We have been in our home in Central Portugal for about three years, and we have been slowly building up our homestead: creating a self-sustaining garden, working the land, planting fruit trees and building eco-friendly projects. Our home is at the end of a peaceful village featuring pretty views and within a short drive of some stunning local river beaches.

We are connected to the mains so we have access to electricity, hot water and internet. Workawayers can stay in the caravan on our land, meaning there is ample privacy and the space to make your own meals.

    Help

We are looking for like-minded people to help support our family as we slowly establish our self-sufficient dream home. We like to spend time on the land with our son and support his growth and learning. Right now, we are particularly looking for people who can support us in our day-to-day lives and the various projects that we are pursuing. Volunteer activities could include gardening, light housework, cooking, child minding, dog walking, general handiwork or building jobs. We would love to welcome individuals or couples with experience in gardening, permaculture, carpentry, building skills and childcare.

This host offers a language exchange
We are a Portuguese-English couple and we are raising our son to speak both languages. English is the more commonly spoken language in the house, but we are happy to learn what we can of new languages too. We encourage everyone who speaks other languages to speak freely with our son in their native tongue to expose him to new rhythms and sounds.
