    Description

We are in a stunning location overlooking the Moray Firth on the peninsular just north of Inverness called the Black Isle. Here we run a Yurt campsite and farm. We have 8 yurts that are open between March and November for guests to stay. All the Yurts are individual and hand made on site. The farm comprises 80 acres of grazing, native woodland cliffs and shore line. We have a flock of 60 sheep, plus their lambs, chickens, 2 pigs, 8 Highland Cows, 2 horses, a pony and 3 dogs. The farm is low intensity and working toward more regenerative principals.

Workawayers will have the opportunity to stay in the highlands of Scotland. Meeting local people, eating food from the area as well as gaining a greater understanding of the area that you would never achieve by simply staying in a backpackers or passing through as a 'tourist'. We have travelled a lot ourselves and have used similar organisations to work and travel in different countries. Now we have our own place it is great to be the host and get to meet people from all over the world, share stories and experiences as well as learn skills from one another.

**** Currently looking for a workaway for October to help pack down yurts for the season as well as general farm related tasks. Fencing, landscaping and tree planting.

The yurts will be closed. During winter months there is a variety of jobs from fencing, gardening, maintenance landscaping and building projects, collecting/ chopping fire wood. Building projects include repairing and replacing yurt platforms and building compost toilets. Work will vary depending of skill and experience. Really looking for someone who has some experience in the jobs listed above. Must have experience of safely using power tools. You will be working alongside me some of the time but also left to get on with some projects yourself. Approximate 3 days a week work. Own transport a big advantage. Accommodation is in a self contained cabin.

    Summer position
Looking for a hard working, easy going individual or couple to join our team. Help needed in the day to day running of our Yurt campsite. Responsibilities include welcoming yurt guests ( a good level of English required for this), cleaning and preparing yurts and bathrooms. General maintenance, around the campsite, grass cutting etc. Help around the farm when the yurts are less busy. Applicant must be physically fit, hard working and responsible with high cleaning standards. Some evening and weekend work is required.

Strimming and grass cutting around he site and chopping wood are common tasks.

Help with feeding farm animals and looking after dogs and sole charge of campsite if I am away.

We are looking for hard working enthusiastic people that are happy to work in a group but also can be left to get on with jobs alone. Being responsible, having good problem solving skills and attention to detail are important qualities. Being flexible about the types of work you do is important and also having a good level of fitness. The farm is on a hill which means a fair amount of walking up and down plus a lot of the jobs are physical!

This is a paid position. National living wage will be paid for hours worked. we are offering a part time position

In the past couple of years during peak season we have had a couple or 2 friends staying. One is offered full time work and the other is offered accommodation and the opportunity to work locally plus some hours during the busy period at the campsite. There are a variety of cafes and restaurants locally always looking for staff during the summer season.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

In your spare time there is lots to see and do in the local area. Spending time at the beach and swimming in the sea for the brave! We have bicycles for exploring the Black Isle. There are lots of walks locally and plenty of wild life from dolphins, seals and otters to deer, badgers and birds of prey.

There is also access to mountain bike tracks right next to the farm. For experienced horse riders there may be the chance of some riding on our horses. For those inexperienced there is a local horse riding centre that takes rides out and explore the local countryside. We are about 5 miles from the nearest village where there are a variety of small shops, restaurants and pubs. If you have your own transport that would be an advantage but otherwise you can walk, bike, or hitch to the nearest village where there is a public bus that takes you to Inverness. We will also help out where possible to give you lifts.

There will be the opportunity to join up on trips and outings we may organise and there may also be occasions where we are away and you could be asked to look after the farm. From the Black Isle there is good access to the rest of the Highlands and Islands where there is fantastic scenery and lots of history to explore.
