Description
Welcome to our multifaceted ecological project! We are a non profit community organisation based on 33 acres of beautiful farmland in the South Downs village of Kingston, near Lewes.
We have been here 3 years, since leaving our life in the city and moving onto the land with our two young children, to build an organisation that addresses so many of the converging crises we see in society today, and stands in service of people AND planet.
We have established over an acre of chemical free, no dig market garden, planted orchard trees, new hedgerows, and the beginnings of a forest garden.
We have introduced new seating areas, sit spots and rewilding areas. Plus chickens, bees and our first few sheep!
We run an affordable veg bag scheme for local residents, plus we sell our produce at local farmers markets and organic health food shops.
We have a seasonal camp site, compost toilets, outdoor shower and wood fired sauna.
We work in partnership with many charities and organisations to provide opportunities and training to our local community - including:
* Regular community volunteer days with shared lunch
* Eco therapeutic wellbeing courses for less advantaged or marginalised groups.
* A free to access, year long entrant farmer traineeship
* Skills share workshops and courses
This is a beautiful place, aiming to show what is possible when we consider a more compassionate, ecological and community focussed way of life.
The area is very well connected to both the countryside and some town life when needed! We have direct access to the South Downs way, which is perfect for short walks, long hikes, runs and bike rides. Plus our village has a lovely pub, and plenty of friendly faces to get to know. The historic town of Lewes is just a mile away - easily reached on foot, by bike, bus or car. And Brighton is just 7 miles away for the full seaside city experience!

UN sustainability goals this host is trying to achieve

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
There is the opportunity to connect regularly with us, our family and our farm community of growers, project leaders and volunteers. At least three days a week there are busy activities taking place on the land, including community growing, farmer traineeships and development projects. We share lunch and connect over shared interests and skills.
We are an open and inclusive environment, and we love meeting new people who can participate in our project, bringing new ideas, skills and energy to our work.
Registered non-profit
This host is a registered CIC in the UK and is looking for help with their non-profit project. Please check directly with them if they can provide sponsorship. More info can be found here.

Help
We are looking for Workawayers who are happy to join us over the quieter winter period on the farm. During this time, we are particularly focussed on tree planting, farm maintainance and eco-building projects, so those skills will be most welcome.
*We are particularly interested to hear from people with sustainable building skills - as we prepare to develop some structures on the land. We are hoping to bring some disused barns back to life, improve the compost toilets, and create changing and decking areas for our sauna glade
* Workaway guests will only be invited to help with non-profit tasks. You won't be asked to help with markets/selling produce or other activities relating to paying guests.
