    Description

Hello! We are a family of one mum and three kids (18, 17 & 11). We live on a hobby farm in Irishtown, in the rolling countryside of the North West of Tasmania. Close by is Smithton (rural town), Stanley (seaside village), the Tarkine (national park) and breathtaking beaches. We are homeschoolers who love going on adventures in nature and connecting as a family.

At home we love being creative, playing board games, cooking homegrown food, playing with our guinea pigs, dog and cats, watching movies together, reading, writing, studying our passions, playing inside and out.

We have beautiful views, sunsets and sunrise's. You can always find some cute animals to spend time with. Highland and jersey cows to hand feed. Chicken and Guinea pigs to sit amongst with garden goodies.

We have a huge organic, permaculture garden you will pick food from and work in.
We have been travelers for most of our lives so love hearing about our visitors adventures and giving you a welcoming experience in our home and lifestyle.

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We will take you on outings in our local area, exploring nature and beautiful historical settings. As homeschoolers we are always happy to experience and learn new things, so have plenty of resources and skills to share. We’d love to share with you times of drawing, cooking from our garden, board games, countryside walks and whatever else you may be interested in from our rural community. Sarah teaches yoga in Smithton which you will be welcome to attend. We also go to regular activities in Smithton and Burnie which you can join with or use the time to explore the area.

  • Help

    Help

We get help with a range of jobs on the farm. It could be - mulching, weeding, help in the vegetable garden, cutting wood, planting trees, making garden beds, loading wood, help with building a eco cabin/toilet, painting. If you have building skills those would definitely be put to use! When the weather is bad you would help with tasks like cleaning, cooking, preserving and fermentation.
We may also get your help with house and animal sitting if we need to leave the farm.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You will be staying in a cozy heated caravan at night time but can hang out in the house during the day. We will share lunch and dinner. We eat meat from cows we have raised ourselves and organic vegetables from our garden. But if you are vegetarian we are happy to work with that and were vegetarian ourselves for years.

Our home is off the grid and on tank water so you will learn about that lifestyle. Our showers are limited depending on how much water is in our tank and if the solar power is available. In winter we cook each night. Our home is modern and always cozy and warm.

    What else ...

We have one 5 seater car and bikes. You will be able to get lifts into town with us. You can spend your time off enjoying the relaxed vibes of the countryside, reading from our extensive library, crafting and creating with our supplies. Our dog is always happy to take you on a walk and folk bike from Irishtown to Smithton to explore.
