    Description

Hi! I'm Marty (he/him/them), an autistic music lover, home cook, and enthusiastic reader based in Wexford, Ireland. I live in a wooden house on a working farm (I'm not a farmer, and no farm work is expected!).

I previously studied modernist and postmodernist literature and philosophy, and those interests still shape my life through poetry, creative writing, and a love of language, humour, and good conversation.

I work mostly from home Monday to Friday, so weekdays can be fairly busy. About once every week or two I travel to my office in Kilkenny. If our schedules line up, you're very welcome to join me for a lift and a day trip into the city.

My four-year-old Móg (whose name rhymes with "Rogue" but starts with an "M") stays with me 1–3 nights a week. Spending time with him is something I really value, so there's absolutely no expectation that Workawayers will help with childcare.

I also share my home with Rua (roo-AH), a very friendly red Golden Labrador who loves meeting people.

I aim to create a home where kind, respectful people feel genuinely welcome. Travellers of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences, including queer/LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent people, are warmly welcome here :)

(Generally looking for short-term workawayers 1-2 weeks!)

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Looking for cultural exchange, especially in the form of shared meals, stories, music, different perspectives, and everyday life.
Happy to host people working on their English.

Happy to partake in trying new local events and offer lifts to them on days without Móg (or with him off work days).
Some I enjoy are original music nights, poetry nights, sea dips, hiking.

  • Help

    Help

No specialist skills are required, mostly practical, hands-on tasks.

For now, getting the house and porch painted/varnished before summer's out is the priority. Other garden things, random bits are options too.

Volunteer hours expected are maximum 4-5 hours a day, 5 days a week with 2 days off.

If it's raining, inside work like general house chores (or if you can think of anything) help would be much appreciated!

More generally, looking for people who enjoy improving the spaces they occupy.

I'm more than happy to work on projects to when not working my day job.

    Accommodation

3 bed wooden house. Bright and cozy.
    - Workwayer bedroom is bright, small and simple with a cozy double bed. (see pic) Thinking of making a fold-away desk for in there.
    - Living/kitchen area again is bright and cozy.
    - Place is very rural, so shops/towns need a bus or car to get to.
    - Happy to host vegan/vegetarians. Often eat vegetarian, but also enjoy eating everything.
    - My work keeps me pretty busy during the day, always happy to cook a big dinner in the evening, more happy to see what other people enjoy cooking too.
    - During the day, generally eating is sporadic for me and I prefer people to prep food for themselves. I'll make sure there's tons of food around. This includes catering to Workawayer needs, just let me know what food you want me to pickup or come along for the grocery shop.
    - Any allergies, just let me know :)
