    Description

I’m Joseph, currently based in beautiful Chania, Crete. I work in the arts — as an artist, photographer, curator, and art dealer — and often collaborate with galleries and art fairs around Europe. I also work with crypto and i have a remote office projects, so my days can get quite busy!

That’s why we thought having volunteers over it’s a great exchange: you get to enjoy an inspiring stay in Crete, and I get a bit of help keeping the house organized, tidy, and full of good energy.

My apartment is in Halepa, one of the most charming neighborhoods in Chania ; peaceful, full of history, and only a 5-minute walk from two incredible spots to swim in the sea. The center of Chania is just a few bus stops away, so it’s easy to explore the old town, the markets, and the lively harbor.

You’ll share the space with me, my girlfriend (who visits on weekends from Athens), and our lovely cats who are quite independent but still enjoy a little attention now and then. We love a relaxed atmosphere, creativity, good food, and meaningful conversations. If you’re a good cook, that’s a big plus / I always appreciate someone who enjoys preparing tasty meals.

I think you’ll fall in love with Crete’s easy going rhythm — the mix of mountains and sea, the Mediterranean lifestyle, and the warmth of the locals. You’re welcome to stay as long as you’d like, as long as there’s mutual respect, good vibes, and a bit of help around the house.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Staying here is a mix of relaxation, creativity, and cultural exchange. I work in the art world so there’s always something interesting happening and info to talk about, If you’re interested in art, photography, or the creative process, you’ll definitely find inspiration and things to learn here.

I’m happy to share my knowledge about art, curation, photography, and even crypto if that’s something that sparks your curiosity. I’ve lived and worked in different countries, like 30 so far so I love exchanging stories and perspectives about culture, travel, and personal projects.

My girlfriend, who visits on weekends from Athens, is also very friendly and social — shes a dancer and teaches movement and choreographies, yoga and all related we usually cook, go out for dinner, or spend time by the sea together. You’ll be welcome to join us for these moments if you wish and meet some other friends

Crete is a very welcoming island with a strong sense of community and history. You can explore traditional villages, local markets, and of course, the beaches and mountains that make this island so special. I can point you to some of my favorite local spots — places tourists rarely find.

  • Help

    Help

The help I’m looking for is quite simple and flexible mostly keeping the house tidy, organized. I’m usually very busy so having an extra set of hands makes a big difference.

Typical tasks include things like organizing a bit or sometimes feeding the cats (though they’re pretty independent and easy to care for). If you enjoy cooking, that’s a huge bonus — I really appreciate when someone likes to prepare meals or share their favorite recipes.

Depending on your interests, there could also be opportunities to help with creative projects — for example, assisting with photography, edits, helping organize art projects, or brainstorming ideas . I enjoy exchanging skills and learning from others, so if you have something creative or practical to share, even better!

We’ll definitely spend some time together, especially during meals or relaxed evenings. But you’ll also have plenty of space and time to explore, swim, travel around the islands or just enjoy the peaceful rhythm of Crete. The goal is to create a comfortable environment for everyone — one that feels like home, but with the beauty of the island right outside our door.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

The accommodation is a cozy apartment located in Halepa, It’s a comfortable and clean home with everything you need to feel at ease and warm during winter

Workawayers will have their own sofa bed in the living room, but the space can be fully closed off at night with a door, making it private and quiet — almost like having your own room. You’ll have access to the kitchen, bathroom, and the porshe area where you can relax or have your morning coffee.

As for food, we can share meals sometimes when our schedules align — I enjoy good food and conversation! Otherwise, you’ll be free to cook your own meals in the kitchen. If you enjoy cooking.

It’s a simple but warm home ideal for someone who loves art, nature, and the peaceful Mediterranean lifestyle.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Chania and the surrounding area offer so much to explore during your free time. You can swim in crystal-clear waters just 5 minutes from the house, visit nearby beaches like Seitan Limania, Falassarna, or Elafonissi, or take day trips to other islands and mountain villages. The local buses are easy to use, and there’s a stop close to the apartment that connects you directly to Chania’s old town and the main bus station.

In your time off, you can enjoy walks around Halepa, a historical neighborhood full of charm, old architecture, and sea views. There are cozy cafés, bakeries, and small tavernas nearby — it’s a great area to slow down and enjoy local life.

As for the house, it’s a relaxed and respectful environment. I work a lot sometimes from home, sometimes outside —so I appreciate calm energy and people who are independent, clean, and considerate.

    A few simple house guidelines:

Keep shared spaces tidy and clean after use.

Respect quiet hours, especially at night.

Be kind to the cats — they’re easygoing but part of the family.

    No smoking inside, please.

Open communication and good vibes are always welcome!

If you love nature, creativity, and the sea, you’ll feel right at home here. The idea is to create a balance — you help a bit around the house, and in return, you get to live in one of the most beautiful parts of Crete
