Description
**Join Us in Building a Sanctuary of Wildlife and Community at Biokovina**
After rescuing a wolf, we set out on a remarkable journey to establish Bosnia’s first wildlife rehabilitation sanctuary. This sanctuary has become the heart of a variety of inspiring projects, all aimed at creating a sustainable, off-grid haven. From nurturing poly tunnels, planting fruit and nut forests, to creating a space for rescued horses, we’re building a self-sustaining future rooted in harmony with nature.
Our mission goes beyond just wildlife. We’re crafting a diverse community where people from all walks of life can come together, share ideas, and work toward a common vision. All proceeds from our off-grid rentals support our wildlife charity, so every visitor plays a part in something bigger.
We are situated just 7km from the historic town of Jajce, an area rich with history and brimming with outdoor activities. You’ll find a stunning, multi-tiered lake where you can swim beneath powerful waterfalls for a refreshing, natural massage. Jajce itself is home to the world-famous waterfall diving competition, making it a hotspot for adventure. Despite being close to town, Biokovina remains a truly wild and untouched corner of Bosnia—a subsistence farming village nestled in the hills, offering breathtaking views down the valley.
Volunteering here means becoming part of this beautiful, shared experience. We have a large communal space where we live, work, and relax together. Whether you’re a guest, a volunteer, or part of our team, we live without separation, encouraging collaboration and connection. And when it’s time to unwind, we gather for movie nights or brainstorm new ideas for the sanctuary. Your creativity and input are always welcome!
Come, be part of something meaningful. Help us grow, while growing closer to nature and one another.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Come and spend time in an authentic Bosnian village - in many ways a place time has forgot - an intimate look into a life connected with nature at its core. Contribute to building a multifaceted evolving community. Open to people coming to explore joining the community on longer term basis if thats of interest. As to the the work there are many skills in many areas that can be developed - equine / horticultural / eco construction / animal care.

Registered charity
This host is a registered charity in their country and is looking for volunteers to help with their project(s).

Help
We require all sorts of help. Whilst the place is up and running we are still in the building phase. Give us a shout and lets see if its a good fit :-)
The most important thing for us is people who are self motivated and want to get stuck in to whatever they are in to. There are many things we need help with and wherever possible we try to match people up with jobs they will find rewarding and satisfying.
Construction - We are continually building new structures / pathways / barns / garden features etc. They are not strictly all eco constructions but we like to experiment with eco techniques.
Filmakers - We have a youtube channel but would welcome people with skills in excess of our rather limited ones both for ongoing content on youtube and also promotional videos with a higher production value. We have some equipment here - vlogging cameras / vlogging studio / drones / professional audio equipment etc.
Social media - Currently developing social media / website strategy etc. So need help both in developing the strategy and producing content according to a content schedule.
Animal care - On the wildlife rehabilitation side there are various animals passing through all the time - sometimes as many as 30 and sometimes none. So sometimes we need help and at other times not. Basic nursing care / feeding and cleaning. We also have 5 dogs / 2 cats / chickens / rabbits / guinea pigs and a wolf. All of whom need time and attention / feeding / cleaning!
Equine - We have 3 rescue horses that need a lot of work to bring them on - all broken but need experienced patient people to do some more flatwork and help them develop riding wise. Also if there is anyone who could teach us to trim their hooves that would be invaluable ...
Cleaning / Maintenance - Of course there are endless cleaning an maintenance help and as well as taking care of your area we share out these less interesting jobs amoungst everyone

Can host digital nomads

The only thing that can happen is that the electricity can fail from time to time like in any small town in the mountains, but that is not something that depends on us.
