Description
---In the heart of the Alabama countryside lies a small, unassuming farm of great beauty and creativity.---
I'm beginning the journey of turning the land into a small farm/ homestead. Any experience with gardens, animals, machines, tools, artistic and creative projects, cooking, preserving, etc... are helpful, but the desire to learn is most important!
Pets are considered on a case by case basis. They must get along with other animals, including chickens.
This is for a non-paid position. Room and basic groceries are provided (Vegetables, eggs, and meat from the farm when available)
Current Projects Include (Updated January, 2024):
-Designing and building a barn and shelter for pigs
-Deconstructing an existing barn
-Expanding vegetable and herb garden
-Any unique, creative projects to make the place special
The work is usually simple and easy-going. We'll work lightly throughout the day, then spend the evenings playing music and games, watching a movie, or sitting around a fire. It's a relaxed and productive atmosphere. Remembering to enjoy the process.
If this sounds interesting to you, please reach out. I look forward to hearing from you
Thanks,
David

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Selma, Alabama, a gem of the rural southeast, boasts a rich history that will captivate any history enthusiast. With a deep culture of "Southern Hospitality" and often overlooked natural beauty of woodlands, creeks, rivers, and rolling grasslands, it's no wonder why visitors feel at home. Perhaps the most pleasant surprise for past visitors has been the genuine kindness and warmth of the local people.
Help
Animal Husbandry, Gardening, Mechanics, DIY, Cooking, Preserving, Artistic Talents, etc... all are helpful.

He’s a hard worker and has good common sense. Even without much experience in a lot of our tasks, he was able to accomplish them with minimal direction.
We worked on a range of projects such as painting, installing… read more
