    Description

    Hello and welcome!
We are Bruce and Kim, living in Walnut Creek, California, about 28 miles east of San Francisco. Our home is cozy and full of warmth, humor, and animals including two service dogs, one of them still in training, and two affectionate cats.

Bruce uses a wheelchair after a spinal cord injury at 18 but leads a very full life with a passion for learning, politics, and people. Kim is his wife and companion in all things. Together we love conversation, laughter, and connecting with people from around the world.

We are looking to welcome a Workawayer who is interested in cultural exchange, community, companionship, and meaningful shared experiences. This is not a job. It is an opportunity to spend time together, learn from each other, and enjoy life in the Bay Area.

💬 Cultural Exchange and Shared Experiences

You will have the chance to experience everyday life in the United States, learn about accessibility and independent living, and explore the unique culture of the San Francisco Bay Area. In return, we would love to hear about your background, travels, interests, humor, and ideas.

We enjoy thoughtful conversations about politics, current events, and life. These conversations are always grounded in respect, curiosity, and openness. We also enjoy sharing local adventures from walks and scenic drives to art, music, and nature throughout the region.

    🛏️ Accommodation

You will have your own private bedroom in our three bedroom home and share a bathroom.
We are vegetarian and vegan friendly and we keep a peaceful, welcoming environment. Meals are informal and you are always welcome to use the kitchen and household essentials.

    📅 Availability

We can host one Workawayer at a time, generally for two to eight weeks depending on the fit and schedule.
We are open to hosting from now onward. Feel free to reach out with your preferred dates.

    🐾 What Else

We value kindness, curiosity, and a good sense of humor.
Our friendly animals love company, so being comfortable around pets is helpful.
There is easy public transport to San Francisco and the East Bay, along with beautiful nature, great cafes, and rich cultural life all around us.

This exchange is about connecting, sharing, and learning. It is not employment. We follow Workaway’s volunteer guidelines fully.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

The San Francisco Bay Area is one of the most culturally diverse and visually striking regions in the United States. It is known for its dramatic coastal landscapes, eclectic neighborhoods, thriving arts scene, and wide mix of global communities. From the fog rolling over the Golden Gate to the colorful murals of the Mission District, the Bay Area offers a constant sense of discovery and inspiration. You can wander through redwood forests, visit world-class museums, explore farmers markets, or enjoy the energy of Berkeley, Oakland, and San Francisco, each with its own unique character and charm. The region is filled with history, creativity, and natural beauty, making it an ideal place for meaningful conversations, cultural experiences, and personal exploration.
