Description
We moved our dreams from California to New York! Our workawayer's have this unique opportunity to enjoy our paradise. We are located at the foothills of a large mountain range and are nestled between a few other mountain ranges! At 1400 feet our little farm has a wonderful view night and day!
We have an interview process for our cultural exchange which includes a set of references and a resume. Ideally, we would like to videochat as well, but sometimes we don't get to it! We want to make sure that the fit is perfect for us as well as you!
We have a small garden that feeds only the household, rescued horses, chickens who provide eggs, and a few dogs (and a cat!)!
We love playing music.. Erik has a music studio and almost every kind of drum and guitar/ mandolin, uke, etc. We also have a piano and a flute! If you love to jam this is a great place to be!!!
In exchange for some home/ garden/ yard/ and chicken help, we provide a private room and full board including WiFi, laundry, and rides into town. Additionally, we like to go do fun things including going out to eat, local and NYC baseball games, breweries, and other fun excursions. Please read our reviews left for us by other workawayers. We try to make this a fun, safe, and fulfilling place to come and visit! We have lots of repeat Workawayer's and love the relationships we have built over the years! We find the cultural exchange to be mutually beneficial. In a world where countries are divided, it is nice to create a beautiful space of peace and harmony with all people from all walks of life!
Enjoy your off time loving on the horses and dogs, running along mountain roads, canoeing and swimming in our artesian-fed pond under the stars, or camping in the 17 acre forest. A major city is about 30 minutes away. There are multiple state parks nearby. We can plan trips as needed. From there it is a very cheap bus ride to NYC where you can party and "live it up" during your off time (if you want)! We feed 3 meals a day or there will be food available for you! You will be treated as an honored guest, but also as a vital member of our small farm! We enjoy visitors who want to be a part of our family, eat meals with us, watch movies, play games, and swim in our pond!
We speak English and some Spanish badly. We enjoy learning new languages and cultures!
Although we love children and pets, we cannot accommodate them.
Come and join us! Check out our past workawayer's comments...

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
You will improve your English (If needed!) and be a part of our family. We can arrange to take you to a bus stop or the train if you want to get down to NYC or take a few days off and roam! New York is so close to everything wonderful on the upper East Coast. There are times that we take everyone out as well and there are also a lots of places to hike and explore around the farm. We continually host Workawayers from around the world simultaneously and so you will meet people from other cultures here as well! In fact, many of our Workawayers still keep in contact, visit, and some even met at our house and still date each other! :) We have group Facebook page dedicated to everyone who has stayed with us so that they can have a private space to stay in touch with each other and the farm!

Help
Our plans change, but this will provide you with a rough idea!
Summer/ Fall: We have a chicken palace that we want to build a tiny walkway up to! Also need to put a roof on the little chicken house patio. Also, we are making tiny bird houses and putting them up on the fence posts in the fields so birds can nest and eat bugs! Pruning, trimming, and taming our wild trees! Tending the small garden we have...
Lots of fun little projects and we are always open to more. For instance, we had a girl from Switzerland who decided to paint the inside of our chicken house with beautiful flowers! Super cute! We also had a girl who wanted to build an Adirondack chair, so we tackled that project and wow... it is beautiful!
...all of this just 2.5 hours from NYC by bus/train. (Roundtrip: $80 train, $30 bus) We recommend the train, though!
... 3 hours from Boston by bus. We recommend flying into Boston and then taking a train or the Greyhound bus rather than flying into New York City. We will pick you up from either the train or bus station in Albany.
....Albany International Airport. We can pick you up from there! This is perhaps more expensive to fly into ALB, but much less stress for you!!! We highly recommend this option!!!!
... Hours from the Canadian Border/ Niagara Falls (About $100 round trip on the train) amtrak.com/home.html
... Catskills/ Adirondacks where there is the world's second longest Zip line. greatnortherncatskills.com/attractions/new-york-zipline-adventure-tours-hunter-mountain

Accommodation
Our cozy 3,300 sq foot farm house has 3 furnished bedrooms with hardwood floors, closets, and large windows... in need of some renovation but much better than a tent! Nestle down in front of one of the three fireplaces in the winter or sit outside on our porch around a small fire! We also have 2 shared bathrooms! Yes, we have wifi!

What else ...
Again, close to the Catskills, Adirondacks, Boston, and New York City by bus is 2.5 hours away. Niagara Falls/ Montreal is a 6 hour bus ride and very easy to get to...
